    Hook up question

I have also chosen to take my HDMI source and go directly to the monitor. However, I have used the DVD players coax digital out to go directly to the receiver to get the digital audio.

    Surround sound expert needed..??

Have you thought about the Soundbar? Yamaha, and Polk are just a couple of the companies that make a great virtual surround system with only one speaker. www.crutchfield.com has some good reviews of these.

Need suggestion on speakers/AVR for under 1k.

You could also look at the Denon DRA-397 if you are unsure at the two you chose. Denon makes a really good low to midrange receiver as well as the very highend. I think this one goes for around $400 and there is another model lower that sells for $300 but both come with good reviews.

    Newcomer seeking advice on speakers/sub

For a $4000 budget you can do pretty good. I have Paradigms and I love them. Check their site out for current models. They also explain well the science behind sound and what you should look for in speakers. Traditionally, Paradigm has made weak subwoofers but check out their Reference line of...

    New sub shopping

What is your budget? There are plenty of amazing subs under the $500 price. I have a Velodyne and I wouldn't buy a different one. There are litterally dozens of manufacturers that sell them. Best bet is to visit a higher end dealer and ask to listen to the different ones they sell. Good Luck!

    Mitsubishi WS-55411

Mitsubishi's are great TV's. I have one myself and I love it. The picture quality is phenominal. And even better if you have an HDMI port to upconvert your DVD's. Try also typing that model # into Google and ad the keyword "reviews" after it and you should get a load of good reviews of that...

    Picking Surrounds, need help

Most true audiophiles will tell you that you should match the speakers as best you can. If you are unwilling to contact Klipsche and find out what they would recommend as rears based on your fronts then purchasing a like speaker such as Paradigms is fine. The main problem is timbre matching or...

Newbie looking for budget receiver recommendation

Harman/Kardon has a great receiver for $299. Model AVR-146. I have the older version of this the AVR-110 and I love it. I paid a lot more for it at the time but this reciever would do you well.

    Reciever or Amplifier?

I have been around the home theater game for awhile but cost always prevented me from really stretching my arms out in terms of audio separation and power. My question is, eventually I want to do everything really high end but I don't know a whole lot about the options and differences. Would...

Whats a good Receiver to go with my Paradigm Monito Titan...

I actually have an entire Paradigm setup and run the entire thing using a Harmon/Kardon AVR110. It's a little older but it powers my large speakers with very little effort. The circuitry in a Harmon/Kardon is well suited for the higher end sound systems. Hope that helps.

Heres my potential set up - Tell me your thoughts

You can't go wrong with Paradigms my friend, but I have also heard that their subs are not the best. I have a Velodyne and I went with them becuase they have primarily produced only subs and have done the right research to make them one of the best out there. They have a very broad price range...

    Which front speakers to get???

I bought the Paradigm Monitor series 7 about 4 years ago and I would never buy another speaker. In fact, i'll use these till they wear out. I think I purchased them in Canada for about $700 for the pair. They are truly a work of art and the sound quality is unmatched in all my research and...

Will towers do anything for HT?

I have been into home theater for about 20 years now and I will admit, I am more of a hobbyist, but having studied and researched the technology out there and having the money to buy almost whatever I wanted, I would suggest you stay with the 5.1 setup and get yourself a good pair of dipoles for...

    Which speakers to get first?

I am in a similar boat. I actually own a very expensive sound system that I had to leave behind when I moved to the U.S. I have since been able to get a couple of my speakers down here when my parents would come to visit. I told them that at the very least I would like the subwoofer and the...
