Annual update time, I guess. I finally ran the rear/surround wires through the attic so I have all the speakers including rear sub and seat shaker on the couch working. I watched Fury Road today and it was awesome.
I haven't finished the pet kennels or the baseboard, but I have covered the...
It sounds like he can control the screen through the remote already, but wants to add the "screen up" command to the off button. I have a different Harmony remote, and I don't know if that's possible. Here's a related question on the Harmony forums. Not sure if that's helpful.
Would an HDMI multi switch work?

We've been in the new house for 8 months, and this is how we've been watching TV. The wires are annoying. Sorry about the lighting. That's an ethernet cable coming in through the door on left and speaker wires for all the rear and surround speakers wrap around the room to the right. There's...
Finally closed on the house, took a month longer than it should have.
I was excited to discover that behind the TV is a closet for the spare bedroom. I can use part of this closet as my equipment rack, so the components can be hidden from the viewing area, give me easy access, and be...
So apparently, my AVR is "Atmos ready". What does that mean? It's an Onkyo TX-NR636.
It's only a 7 channel receiver, so I guess that means instead of 7.2, I could arrange it as 5.2.2. not sure if that's worthwhile.
Haha, I hate wires.
I have dogs and a roomba, wires are very very bad. I should have good attic access that's a plus.
Talked to the wife about a dedicated HT room, and she said not until we remodel the kitchen and bath.
Yes, all important considerations, and the reason I'm where I'm at now.
There are 2.5 people living in the house (my daughter splits time between my house and her mom's). Currently, the TV is in the family room and used for general TV watching, movies, occasional gaming, and sports (mostly...
What makes you suspect DirecTV is the culprit? Is that the most recent thing that was changed? I've had two different HD-DVRs on my network and no problems. I also have two computers, three game consoles, the TV the AVR all wired, plus of course the wi-fi that we use to connect several...
Here's a pic of what we were watching before I got the flatscreen.
Here's the current setup with wires that haven't yet been hidden, and won't be since we're moving soon.
It doesn't bother me much, but I do want to hide them next time. And since we will be buying instead of renting, I'm willing to do some renovation to make it work.
Macros are an absolute must. The only thing I don't like abut my Harmony 880 is that it doesn't (by default) enable all the controls that it should.
For example when I choose "Watch TV", it turns on the TV and Amp, and selects the right input, and the volume up/down controls the amp, and the...
I haven't moved yet, but (hopefully) I will next month. This house has an extra bedroom, that I could use for a dedicated theater, but I'll probably go with the family room setup because that's more convenient. That said, I want it to be a clean as possible. Here's the current system (well...
Yeah, I hadn't noticed that before, and I was searching through the computer-setup screens, and couldn't find anything (other than setting my time zone) then I saw it after I posted. Thanks.
Yeah, it was the comp. I loaded the SW on different machine, and it's a much more reasonable 2 minutes or so. Something funny about the laptop that it gets lost when starting the 'verify' process on the remote.
So that's actually normal? I thought maybe I had something wrong with my system. 10 minutes to update is ridiculous. Other than that, I love the Harmony 880, and my wife is happy with it too. Very easy to use, and to learn to use which is very important with a universal remote. My only other...
Make that agonizingly slow. It downloads the update quickly, but the "verify" process takes at least 6 minutes, then after it rebooted, I though the system had locked up but it finally finished about 8 minutes after I started the update.
The color screen on the 880 is nice, but I'm actually more impressed by the setup process. Yeah, it was somewhat tedious to have to plug the thing into a computer, and go through their steps designed to allow a complete moron to set up the remote, but I think it's a lot better than going through...
Any other opinions on Direct's HD offerings? I've ordered the upgrade now that I have a TV capable of displaying it, but they can't come out until the end of the month.
