    Upconverting DVD players..how does it work?

    I have an Upconverting DVD player. 480i.480p,720p,1080i. I can select which upconvert to use, or none= 480i. I selected 1080i. According to my HDTV display the movies are in 1080i. But I started having "black outs" on the screen, a blank screen, the audio would still be playing...
