If you check the poll title again, you can see that all of the shows listed ran for several seasons (long-running shows) which is why the second tier shows aren't included. I wouldn't mind seeing a release of Pete and Gladys myself, although this show only lasted two seasons and technically...
Another addition could be the Ann Sothern Show which ran for three seasons. Although it was a different show from Private Secretary, it could almost be thought of as seasons 6-8. Sothern quit PS after season 5 after suing producer Jack Chertok over her share of the profits from the sale of PS...
I'd love to see Ann Sothern's first series, Private Secretary released on DVD but I'm not holding my breath. It seems that ship has sailed, especially for classic series from the 50's and 60's.
I was very young in 1964 but remember this show mainly because it was part of a failed experiment entitled 90 Bristol Court, which had three separate sitcoms all situated in the same California condo complex. The only cast member that appeared in all three sitcoms was the caretaker played by Guy...
The lack of votes for Margie may have something to do with the fact that the show is running weekday mornings on Retro TV so it's possible to record those episodes currently. Steve Beverly ran an episode of the Gale Storm Show recently on his program; I thought it was better than Margie but...
I would agree with Jack Benny Show getting a more complete release but there are a substantial number of episodes already available, so my choice went to Private Secretary as there are so few episodes out there from that show and Ann Sothern is a favorite of mine.
Really enjoy Private Secretary. My favorite episodes are anything with Jesse White as Susie's rival Cagey Calhoun. His relationship with Susie aka"Foxy" was hilarious, always trying to best her but always coming in second. The funniest episode was "A Scream in the Night" where Susie and...
I'm pretty sure they are the public domain episodes that have been floating around for several years now and have had unofficial releases on DVD for several years now. Also Retro TV ran Susie once a week last year, again the same 18 or so public domain episodes. I've found a few more episodes...
Very interesting news. David, any chance of acquiring more episodes of the Ann Sothern series "Private Secretary/Susie", apart from the 16 or so episodes that have been circulating in public domain for several years? Metromedia owned the series for many years, but I believe that Fox acquired all...
It was several years ago, but I ordered Season 3 of Parker Lewis Can't Lose from the German site of Amazon (only the first two seasons were released by Shout Factory) and don't recall having any issues with my order. I think I had to go to the post office to sign for it, but other than that, it...
Mr. Barnsthal (Lane) was great. Lane specialized in playing crabby characters and wasn't overused, unlike Gale Gordon's Mooney. Unfortunately, Lane had trouble remembering his lines, which was a big problem since The Lucy Show was filmed in front of a live audience. Fortunately for him...
Apparently Lucy and Southern did not get along terribly well which led to the decision not to have her replace Vance after she left the series. Ball was not the most diplomatic person and could be rough on the crew and the other actors. She didn't trust many people and that often led to hurt...
"I Love Lucy" remains the gold standard for situation comedies, thanks to the stellar cast, brilliant writing and the genius of Desi Arnaz. Lucy was a big talent, but never made it big in movies, mostly settling for starring roles in "B" films. It was Arnaz who saw television as the perfect...
The daughter was played by Lisa Gerritsen who went on have a recurring role in the MTM show as Cloris Leachman's daughter Bess and continued in that role when Leachman's "Phyllis" was spun off into her own show in 1975. She left acting soon afterwards.
When Weigel made the announcement last month about START, they indicated that most CBS o&o's would be replacing Decades with the new service. They also said they were trying to find new affiliates in the CBS markets. This comes from their press release from mid-July.
The fact that CBS is pulling the plug on a service they co-own is a bad sign for the future of Decades. With the loss of the CBS o&o stations (all are major markets), it seems hard to see how that service can survive in the long run. Attracting other stations in those dropped markets won't be...
Me-TV ran MacGyver about a year ago, twice nightly, but pulled both airings after just a few months. Apparently they were disappointed with the ratings.
In fact, not only was ABC quite serious about moving TOL to a killer time slot, they did just that for the second season. It was moved to 7:30 PM on Saturdays against Jackie Gleason and the show was history by January. Even Stevens and Stefano departing the series didn't placate the sharks at...
Shout Factory continues to surprise. Even before the official release of Season 1, they have announced Season 2 for an August release.

Four episodes of "The Master" were reedited into two TV movies which the MST3K gang got hold of. Based on those four episodes, the show was really bad television.
TVShowsonDVD is reporting that Shout Factory will be releasing this show sometime this summer. No additional details available at this time such as whether this will be the complete series or just Season 1. The show has been available in Region 2 for a few years but not here (presumably due to...
I'm glad Lou Grant is finally coming to DVD, but I have to say this is a very "out of left field" title. Hour long dramas (excluding cop or westerns) don't usually sell very well and I won't be a bit surprised if season 1 is all we ever get. I would have thought St. Elsewhere would have been...
An edited version of the Elephant story actually appears on one of the bonus extra discs in the "Mama's Family" complete collection set, along with a bit of background to the sketch by Vicki Lawrence and Tim Conway.
I think the relative merits of these Lucy "clones" could be debated, but the primary reason these other shows haven't made it to DVD as opposed to Lucy is that "I Love Lucy" is, and probably always will be, in class by itself. In many ways, Lucy became the standard by which all other sitcoms...
Never saw this series but always liked Eve Arden. I wish Decades would get something resembling a regular schedule for the classic shows it broadcasts. It's frankly a pain in the neck trying to find out when (or if) a show is going to be broadcast on any given day of the week. Seriously, the...
