Tributes To Your Favorite Classic TV Stars

J.D. CANNON BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE John Donovan Cannon (April 24, 1922 – May 20, 2005) was an American actor. An alumnus of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, he is best known for his co-starring role of Chief of Detectives Peter B. Clifford in the television series McCloud with...

Well, they never got the filming stage of those two, so out of what was filmed, they made their scheduling choices. Turnabout Intruder, which was the final episode shot, was pre-empted and then held back until the very last day the series was on the schedule (in a new time slot - which made no...

Did Harve Bennett really watch all 79 episodes? In some discussions I've had on other forums, there's skepticism over how much research he actually did before taking over the film franchise. Mostly because there's some debate over who Kirk was referring to at the end of Star Trek V: "I had a...

Yeah that second ad seems like kid's art. Oy vey. Star Trek hit syndication in NY and PA the Monday after it left NBC in 1969. WPIX 11 in NY ran it in production order the first weekday after Turnabout Intruder aired on the network. But it took a couple of years for it to really take off.

Oh, I heard her laugh. It's probably because of that crewmember that's in a questionable position just about at Kirk's waist.

Yeah I think I saw you then. I was surprised there wasn't more of a fan / cosplay turnout. Or more audience interaction. I have to admit, I was relieved when certain moments went by without laughter. At the same time, disappointed there was no round of cheers when Kirk did his "Khan!" scream...

That was my exact thought when I read that. The Voyage Home is wayyyyyyy down my list of favorite Trek movies.

Yeah I'm 10 minutes from CAC - same town. I'm sure we can set something up. Besides, every so often they run a classic SF film. I saw the original Planet of the Apes there back in September. Ha, facts. There was more than one Starfleet officer in attendance.

Yep I was there! Flannel shirt, no hair, Khan tank top. 🤣 Sorry I didn't know you were there. Would have been fun to chat in person. Good crowd, too. The film hits different with an audience. I try to see every Fathom and indie showing of it. I prefer the theatrical cut but any version is a joy.

Yes that's pretty much correct. "The Cage" was an earlier title of the pilot, Roddenberry's original outline (as reprinted in The Making of Star Trek). It also carried the title "The Next Cage" and then "The Menagerie." Once the two-parter claimed that name, the original pilot was re-christened...

Funnily enough, I was at a cinema screening of it last night. Yes, and the implication (visually) is that it used the nebula matter to help create the Genesis planet.

What's the last TV DVD/Blu-ray you bought?

I saw that, an amazing price for this series in this format. Enjoy it, it looks fantastic, the restoration is beautiful. The original film prints of second season opening credits have been lost, I'd read, so they are upscaled from SD, but the episodes themselves are fine. How and why they...

That was the least of my problems with Picard. I really don't rate any of the original series "last episodes" as season finales simply because they weren't what we call finales. Just episodes that aired last. None of them were great: "Operation: Annihilate!" is the best by default, not...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Well, keep in mind that season finale's were much different then. Often, they were black holes where networks dumped weaker episodes. Unlike today, where a season finale is a bigger deal, the culmination of an arc or, before serialization became the norm, cliffhangers to hook people to come back...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

I like the premise of the A:E series and taken as a pilot, I find it fun. It wouldn't have been any more varied than The Invaders, but Robert Lansing and Teri Garr would have been a pleasure to watch every week. Backdoor pilots are rarely, if ever, good episodes of the series they're shoved...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Perhaps not, but that's generally what it's been tagged as since it's an early edit with tighter pacing and some trims that never made it back into the current versions. Anyways, whatever we wanna call it, Paramount could have released it as is.

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Funny they say this: The rest of the footage had been lost. Roddenberry did have a copy of the complete episode but it was a black-and-white workprint, with a rough soundtrack. So Paramount took the only option available: Well, not only... They never considered actually just releasing the...

I never heard that. They didn't really have a plan. The 6th was meant to be the last with the classic cast. Unless you're thinking of the Academy movie that was never made, which was supposed to be made after Star Trek V.

Michael Ansara had a long resume, starring as Cochese in the series Broken Arrow (1956-1958) and surfing the guest star wave on nearly every series on the air. He acted in all four of Irwin Allen’s sci-f shows, clocking in two appearances each on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (as well as...

I feel Luke's story was essential in all three as he grew in each film. I do agree that Han and Leia's story progressed in Empire and Vader's did in Jedi, but bother were on an equal plane with Luke. Luke is the one main character who had a full arc over all three movies.

How about this one? For the summer of 1984, all 7 times I saw Star Trek III, this bad boy greeted me at my local RKO. To this day, I still say "no talking....pleeeeeze!" Now I'm looking to create the 1984 theater experience for this movies. :)
