Why not a 5500? It's newer at least, and some owners say the best AV-amp in its class producing stereo-sound. :emoji_thumbsup: Btw, my PB10 runs also on 100Hz xover, and isn't localised too much I think. We measured against 60Hz, not much difference in my room. Very happy with the sub...
I have a PB10 in similar size room and it's never near it's straining point. I just couldn't bear it, the speakers would blow before that thing. And this is an apartment.. I'd say it would produce serious bass, not tear any walls down if you don't plan to...
What if you put the big, new box to the front, and the older, beloved box to the back, unconnected? That way you can tap her everyday, and tell her you still love her. :b Otherwise, there could be major problems with calibrating them. Remember that sitting in the middle of the room is not an...
"John: Try plugging the port, it might sound even better!" Of course you were John too, I meant John G! :) My PB10 is sealed now, peak @20Hz gets lower I think. I'll have to measure again when BFD arrives. Hmm, my room is about 11x13, full alright! Seriously, this is a pretty awesome...
"I realize that by going with bookshelfs I am limiting the possible results." What's that suppose to mean? I say you're exceeding the limits with quality speakers.
Every amp does that, some less some more. You shouldn't hear it very well, if do, there might be something wrong. If it don't bother you, don't bother. ;)
Ahem, it's an apartment.. This way I can eat, cook, sleep, watch tv & dvd 5.1, play music, surf the net etc all in one room. :D (Bathroom is surely separate) I think color was maple, bad memory. Click "brochure" at the Wharfe-link, there are nice pics also. Mine are pretty bad, cheap camera...
I apologise, they're at yahoo.com guess the server is often busy.. Here's some other pics. I added link to upper post for the pics.. Linking didn't work somehow.
I've got 5x 9.1 with a Sony DB790. I really like them, though my concretewall room and the acoustics suck big time. My friend has 2x 9.4 and 2x 9.1 same amp. He likes them.. Another friend has 2x 8.2, a center and 2x 8.1. I've never listened these side by side, so I can speak only for...
(That extra 1,5" comes from the baseplate, and applies to whole PCi-line*) I'd definitely go with either 25 or 20, 16 I can do with my PB10. :b * not really sure about that after all
I also have Wharfes. That 6 is only the minimum, it changes with the Freq. So it doesn't really matter if it's 6 or 8, with a recent/decent amp of course.
What about PB12-ISD/2? That is a big room after all.. Although, if 1000$ is the budget, I'd stretch and get the ultimate PCU (the best driver, med-size cylinder). Heck, 150$ ain't much. :)
I'm not into this sub-war, we have our own on a finnish forum. LOL They have a hard time believing that a 550€ sub can beat twice as pricy Velos (in numbers) for example. I can't really say anything about Hsu's, that was just a quote from the shootout. They don't ship here, so we'll just have...
Nice welcoming.. :) I think you just have to try, order some sub and set it up right with a BFD and a mic, RS-meter for example. No one else can tell you _exactly_ how it performs there, maybe hint you in a direction. 1) Location & room 2) Setup (EQing, levels, crossover on amp, FR etc..)...
You'd like to upgrade from bookshelves to floorstanders? Why? I'd say it's not worth it. Cheap floorstanders are usually boomy. 8-series is not _that_ good, at least 9-series is better, and with same price. Bookshelves are better I think. I've got 9.1s.. That Yammy isn't too powerful, but it...
I'd say rather 20-39PCi (same cylinder-shell as Ultra) than 25-31. Goes lower, not that loud on upper levels, but still way enough. If you want to ensure the power capabilities and a better driver, 20-39PC+ it is. Your room ain't small.. (I've got PB10 in a 13x10 room, and it's plenty!)
Just to remind, that I'm still very pleased with the sub. We have ~4 of these in Finland now, and they all are in heavy use, I believe. Greetings to Tom, Ron, Erik and the whole crew!
