Ryan, My post was meant to be taken just as Alan took it. I thought I used enough smiley faces and !!!'s to let you know it was (mostly ;) ) tongue-n-cheek! :) ;) Darryl
Ryan, You have now started 2 different long threads about what speakers to buy. Get off the computer, and go listen for yourself!! ;) You're going to be here for a while if your waiting for total agreement from people on which speaker is "best". Go listen, then go buy what YOU think...
Ryan, Either the 5 B1's, or the 3 C1's & 2 B1's will sound nice. I had the B1's (4 B1's + C1 + AS-P400) and ultimately replaced the B1's with 4 more C1's. The great thing about BestBuy is that you can buy and audition the speakers in your house for 29 days, and if your not happy you can...
Good response Chuck, it's nice to converse with someone rationally! :) I guess my biggest complaint about the lobing issue is as follows: People are worried about the lobing or frequency response of the center speaker for listeners sitting off to the left or right of the theater room...
The lobing issue is common with any MTM (mid-tweeter-mid) speaker, from any manufacturer. So, if that is the argument of everyone who thinks the AS-C1 is "the worst in Athena's line up", then I guess the same MUST be said about: JBL,Paradigm,NHT,Klipsch,ect,ect... As they use the same design...
The "notorious reputation" he is referring to, is basically a handful of people on these different forums that think the C1 stinks. Check out the link in post #3 that Mike gave you and you can see for yourself what a professional opinion looks like on the C1. It's very favorable, and i love...
I don't know how they are designed to be a "multi use" speaker, but it's Athena themselves that say they designed the C1 this way. Thats good enough for me. No, the wire inputs do not rotate, but the "Athena" emblem on the front grill does rotate so it's straight no matter how you place the...
I have (5) AS-C1's and an AS-P400 sub, powered by a Yamaha 5760. The sound pans across the room are flawless, especially pans across the front LCR. They sound great on movies and multi channel music. They are very "punchy" with an almost perfect mid range. Powered by my Yamaha, they are...
Tony, I edited my post above, so check out my P.S. ;) Turn your x-over on the sub all the way up so it doesn't come into play with the x-over in your receiver. If you have a x-over bypass input on the sub, use that. Darryl
You got it Tony. :) But don't hesitate to experiment with the x-over setting in your receiver (if it's adjustable) to find which setting sounds best to you, in your room. The room itself has a huge effect on the systems acoustics, and no two rooms are completely alike. Darryl P.S...
Your topic heading made it sound as though the sub is connected with speaker wire from the receiver, and then to the tower speakers?? ("speaker level") Or, did you use a coaxial cable to connect the sub and then speaker wire from the receiver to the towers?? ("line level") Speaker level...
I too believe that Dan has his system set up properly in regards to DD and DTS. He put brackets around them both to show which setting he selected. However, I think that his speaker delays are off (very unusual to have all 6 speakers at 8ft!). And more important he has not yet calibrated the...
I ran ALL 5 ;) of my AS-C1's for about 2 weeks while I was at work. I ran them as large, and at a pretty high volume while Metalica played on repeat mode. I can't say I noticed a huge difference, but I feel better with them "broken in" like Athena strongly recommends! Darryl
Kurt, dude, if you like the current AS-C1 than go buy it!!!! We can't hear into the future, so none of us know if the "new and improved" C1 will sound ANY different. And for what it's worth, my prior set of JBL's (studio center) had that fancy magnet and a whole bunch of other high tech...
Again, you can use the balance control to level out the left and right speaker if you have a big enough difference in SPL (2db or higher) between the two. Darryl
On my 3 year old Sony that I had, I had to use the "balance" control to calibrate the front left to the front right. And the center and surrounds and sub were calibrated to them, as if the left/right is "0" So on my Sony I had the "balance" control centered for the left/right speakers and the...
On AVS, there was a thread right after the CES, and the poster said he saw the new Athena line up and talked with the sales rep. He said the rep told him that the "new" Athena's would sound the same as the current lineup, but have a different look to the front baffle and the drivers would now...
I use (5) AS-C1's and an AS-P400 sub. I absolutely love my system. I would not wait for the "improved" AS-C1, because the current C1 sounds so damn good!! Also, since you have the "older" F2's, you know that the current C1 will be a perfect match. Why risk any little "mismatch" at all...
I have the 5760 with (5) Athena AS-C1's and an AS-P400 sub, and it sounds great! The YPAO is a nice/accurate feature that makes set up a breeze. And the sound is "warm" yet "punchy". Very nice.... Darryl
Billy, I did the YPAO and then out of curiosity double checked it with a SPL meter. (all 5 channels were +/- 0.5db!) The B2's and the C1 did sound very good. But the problem was that I heard a system with 5 identical Paradigm Atoms a couple of days before I bought my set up, so I knew what...
Don, I first had 2 AS-B2's for my L&R and 2 AS-B1's for my surrounds, an AS-C1 center and an AS-P400 sub. (powered by a Yamaha 5760) I used this set up for 29 days, but I was never totally satisfied with the front sound stage. In movies like Finding Nemo, Monsters inc., and Toy Story 2...
YES! I have the AS-P400 sub, and (5) AS-C1's and they sound awesome. The sub is in a 16x21x9 room, and has enough power to fill the room @27hz and up. It's a great sub for the price. Darryl
I have the Yamaha 5760, my buddy has the 1014. Both are powering Athena 5.1 systems. They both sound great. In a TRUE blind test ( all levels/delays matched, same room/speakers, just swaping out the receiver) you would be lucky to "pick" the correct receiver 50% of the time. Get what...
Because it's ugly?? ;) (Easy guys, its just my opinion) What about the Yamaha 5760? It sounds great and you'll have some extra cash to take your wife out to were ever SHE wants to go!!! Darryl
Mike, I would just leave the AS-C1 horizontal at all times. Since the center is mounted low, you meed to find some "little rubber feet" to properly aim the center speaker up to where it's facing straight at your nose while you're at the seated position that you watch movies. This...
