    Samsung BD-P1200/BenQ 8700+ Compatibility Problem

The problem you are having I believe is an old problem that is not limited to the Samsung Player you are using. I have the BenQ PE8700+ as well. Your problem sounds almost identical to what I experienced with my Samsung HD950. The only exception is I would also get a picture flicker that seemed...

    ?? Benq8720, Mitsu HC5000, InFocus 7210

I have the predecessor BenQ PE8700+. The 8720 is the updated version. I really like the picture quality. The 8720 being an improved version I imagine is awesome. The only thing I wish was different is the lens has to be adjusted via remote control, but it's manual. Actually, if you think about...

    anyone using the Samsung DVD-HD860?

I don't have the 860 but I do have the 950 and do not like it. I opted for the 950 because I could get it in black. Picture quality is good if you aren't picky about black being really black. The HDMI output for me was a problem. The picture would every so often go blank a second and come...

Is there any place that still sells Laserdisc players?

I have a Pioneer CLD-D504 that I no longer use. It still works and like new. I still have the manual. It has S-Video and Composite Outs. There is also an AC-3 RF out which requires a separate unit which converts the output to optical which I also have. I'm not sure what you are looking for in...

    Used B&K AVR-5/307 or new Denon 3805?

I too own a B&K Ref 50. Reliable? Hell yeah! I started with a Ref 20. I didn't want to spend the money for an upgrade so I just straight out bought the Ref50 and moved the Ref 20 to the bedroom. Both have been bullet prove. They just don't die. I spent hours auditioning B&K against Yamaha and...

    Hissing from Center Channel

All receivers and preamps have noise. The key is to have a signal to noise ratio large enough that the noise (hiss in your case) is not audible. It does sound like it's time to upgrade/replace the receiver.

    Denon 3806 or B&K Ref 50

The Ref 50 is the way to go. I went from the Ref 20 to the 50. The sound quality is excellent. Music has depth and detail. Movie sound tracks are also excellent.

please help me decide - pre-pro or preamp?

I like the preamp/processor route. My reason with a receiver if something goes bad you now have no options as far as a work around.

    ipod preamp?

It really is not necessary to get a high cable to connect your ipod to the receiver. All you really need to be concerned with is a cable of good enough quality that you do not pick up any noise. I have used e $30 and a $10 cable. I cannot hear any difference between the two. For me the better...

    Servo 15

I would also suggest to move the crossover point to 80hz instead of 100hz. That will eliminate some of the boominess you were getting. If that Sony has a pre out you may be able to get away with just purchasing a good power amp for the fronts. Whatever you do, make sure you at less double the...

    Putting receiver in an armoire?

You will reduce the life span of the receiver because the heat has no where to escape. If possible install a small cooling fan on the rear of the amoire. As far as leaving it on there are mixed opinions. If you have the right ventilation you will be OK, but you will reduce the life span. On the...

    Help With Separates

If you are going to buy a stronger amp for low volumes and clarity save your money. At a moderate volume level what you'll notice as a benefit is a stronger more detailed bass while the mid's and high's won't suffer. At that point you wil hear more detail and the sound stays clear and clean...

    4 ohm speakers

It is true that the system will not play as loud with the 8 ohm speakers, but what Chris is saying to you is true. The impedance rating of speakers is a norminal (average) of the impedance range. You may hear a difference in loudness but only slight. Remember for you to hear a difference in...

    Help With Separates

Your approach to buying now and upgrading in the future is a good one. There's one piece of info you need to consider as far as power. If the Marantz is 125 wpc and you will be purchasing a stronger Amp in 6 months, if you are looking for louder and clean you will have to double the power just...

    More SPL?

What are the spec's for the speakers and your power amps. The efficiency of your speakers is important. The higher the SPL the better (they take less power for a given loudness). An 88 dB SPL rated speaker will take more power to play at the same level as a speaker rated at 92 or 93 dB. The...

    Ipod Problems...

It is not the IPOD being the problem with the sound. It is the headphones you are using. I went through the same thing. I tried a top of the line set of Sony earphones and did not like the sound from them either. It cost me but I finally found a set to do the sound justice. They are not cheap...

    6.1 Side Surrounds Question

My sides are about 5 feet from seating area. Rear's are 6.5 feet. You should be find with what you have described. You should hear things on the sides of the room just find during movie scenes.

    center speaker question

Regular speakers for a center will work just fine. You can experiment with how you place it; laying down sideways or standing up if you have the space. If it's on the floor you may want to raise it about 10 degrees. You can use small rubber door stops or small wood blocks.

    6.1 Side Surrounds Question

I do not think it is that critical. If they have to be about 80 degrees, hopefully they will be biased facing toward where you'll be sitting. Keep in mind that they are only for effect/reflections so they are not that crirical. You will still be able to hear the effect of soundthing moving front...

New Samsung DVD player with DVI output?

I bought one from Costco 2 weeks ago. I just tried to hook it up last night using the DVI output and cannot get it to display a picture unless I use something other than the DVI output. I connected it to a BenQ PE8700 projector. I have tried everything including reviewing the tips at the CC site...

    Broken RCA pin on Servo-15

It really should not be that hard to remove. Use a long small screw, threading it into the broken pin. Once you get a bite, pull it out. You should be able to get it out far enough to use needle nose pliers to get it the rest of the way out.

Hanging speakers from cable or rod

Jeremy I used gold chains like you see on small hanging kitchen lamps for my two front speakers (37 pounds each). The side and rear surrounds I used braided steel wire and heavy duty picture hanging hooks. You can get a picture hanging kit with all the parts from Home Depot. If you are wondering...

    B&K 507 vs. Outlaw 950 +Outlaw amp

The RS232 is enabled but not the firewire. I have the RS232 connected to my pc. It makes it very easy to setup during initial setup (everything on one screen). You can also control it during normal use from your pc.

Problems playing discs w/ Toshiba player...

Most players will only play DVD+R. It's the most popular and widely used format. Also some players will not play DVDR's burned above 4x but that's just some.

    B&K 507 vs. Outlaw 950 +Outlaw amp

I previously was using a B&K Reference 20. It's now retired and boxed up. I decided to by the B&K Ref 50 instead of upgrading the 20. I have been very happy with both. The detail for both music and movies is excellent. I auditioned Sony, Denon, and B&K for about 3 hours in the store. The B&K won...

Connecting Bose 901 or similar to Pioneer VSX-1014 or Yamaha HTR-5790

I still have a pairs of 901's used for front channels. The only way you can connect your speakers is get a receiver that will let you use the front outputs as a preamp and add a separate power amp between the speaker and the EQ. The other way is use separates (pre/pro amp and separate power...

Hanging speakers from cable or rod

I have speakers hanging that are 37 pounds each on chains like the ones flower pots and lamps use. I used decorative hooks in the ceiling and on the speaker cabinets. You must make sure you screw into a beam or use really wide fasteners that go into the ceiling.
