DVD Review HTF DVD REVIEW: Deliverance: Deluxe Edition

Not just your opinion. I have the previous release still on my shelf. Won't get rid of it. Much better picture than the new DVD release.

"The Naked Prey" from Criterion in January?

Come on, I was exaggerating and kidding about it being more popular than THE WIZARD OF OZ. You don't recall THE NAKED PREY being shown often on "The 4:30 Movie"? It was always shown during the same week they showed ZULU. Remember those theme weeks they had? PLANET OF THE APES week, Japanese...

We need the Ultimate punk 3 pack (Urgh! Decline of the Stains)

I agree and would add DANCE CRAZE to your list. URGH! has some incredible performances, but I believe you are right -- licensing fees and royalties are going to be huge stumbling blocks.

"The Naked Prey" from Criterion in January?

Impossible to tell how many people have seen this film (box office doesn't register TV viewings), but I must say that around New York, every single human being has seen this film....and probably loved it. Many moons ago before cable TV when you only had seven TV channels, here in NY we used...

    Wall Street: 20th Anniversary Edition

Yup, the new DELIVERANCE is worse. You are correct about the new DELIVERANCE, so I'll take your word about the new WALL STREET. Thanks for the tip.

"The Naked Prey" from Criterion in January?

Yes! This has been on my 'Most Wanted' list for years. Excellent film. I thought for sure a bare bones edition was in store for this film. If Criterion does do it, extras I will get!

Best Buy -- they had tons of them on the shelves....well, tons minus the one I bought.

Any chance of A Bronx Tale re-release?

Considering what the film's star did, I sincerely doubt that any film studio would be pushing a new version of this.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Battle for Iwo Jima: 5-Disc Commemorative Collector's Edition

Two things: 1. Watch it. Watch all of it. It is the best DVD release of the year. Two top-quality films and tons of extras that fully enhance the experience of viewing these fine films. 2. If this set is really gone already, then, yes, we should be glad that we have it. We are lucky ones.

    Sergio Leone Special Editions

Thanks so much for this tip! I looked all over for DUCK, YOU SUCKER and it looked like it was going to have to be purchased via mail. Then I read your post, went straight to an FYE, and bought the DVD (on sale for $19.) Thanks a ton, man.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Letters from Iwo Jima: Two-Disc Special Edition

Great, and I do mean GREAT, film. Only thing wrong with it is, as you call it, its "highly desaturated palette." The most annoying trend in films today. It is our age's "split-screen." Now look at how dated that technique looks. Monochromatic film coloring will look just as dated in a decade or...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Caine Mutiny Collector's Edition

That is a great question and one that puzzled me when I picked up the DVD. He looks like the guy who screams the loudest, "Holman, come down!" in THE SAND PEBBLES. But this is THE CAINE MUTINY DVD, so what he is doing on the cover I have no idea.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Caine Mutiny Collector's Edition

I picked this one up....everyone should pick this one up. You nailed the film's major flaw -- that insipid romantic sub-plot of Keith's (and I should mention Keith's mother fixation). Oh, how I wish someone would do a Phantom edit and just snip those scenes. The film would then be as close to...

    DVD Review HTF REVIEW: APOCALYPTO

I walked into the theater to see this completely blind (just knew it was set amongst the Mayans and had subtitles) and I walked out of the theater loving it. You are in for something special with this one. The idea that films can take us to other worlds is never more true than here. The...

    NASCAR documentry - suggestion?

I have the NASCAR Driven To Win DVD. Would I recommend it? Nah. It is up close and personal pieces on a number of young drivers. Though it is done well, I don't think it is what you are looking for. The one to get would be the NASCAR IMAX Experience DVD. I remember the reviews in the...

Announced: Flags Of Our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima - 5 disc set!

Oh, this is the way it should be released. YES! Did not buy FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS, but will now in this set. I found IWO JIMA to be the far better film.

I WILL FIGHT NO MORE FOREVER....finally

For those that have seen this 1975 TV movie, tomorrow's long-awaited DVD release makes for a fine day. For those who have never seen it, I wholeheartedly recommend this film. Back from the golden-age of ABC TV movies, this film is truly special. It tells the story of the Nez Perce Indians...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Borat - Cultural Learnings of America...

Great movie, wish the DVD had more. However, what we get in those deleted scenes is really great stuff. I'm thankful for that. It's great that the DVD has fun with the conventions of DVDs. The bootleg look is hilarious as is the joke when you go to the language selection menu and click on...

S*P*Y*S Wow, I have been waiting a looooong time for S*P*Y*S. This film is even better than M*A*S*H........you are about to say I am nuts, aren't you? Ha, just kidding about it being better. However, it is a definite purchase. It is at times very funny and you must buy it just for the very...

Jackass Number Two may be the funniest movie I've ever seen!

I laughed my head off when I read that line of yours. I'm sure you can see the hilarity in calling anything in a Jackass movie "top-notch material." It is funny how we are trying to intelligently evaluate a Jackasss movie when basically all it is is a bunch of boneheads having some stupid, naked...

Jackass Number Two may be the funniest movie I've ever seen!

Can't say I agree. JACKASS THE MOVIE (along with BOARAT and Richard Pryor's first concert film) is the funniest movie ever made. NUMBER TWO is, sadly, a very disappointing film. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I think the guys were trying way too hard. The first film was fresh and...

What are YOUR top ten DVDs of 2006?

#1. GRAND PRIX Huh? Yup, GRAND PRIX. Oh, here we get something a little out of the ordinary. GRAND PRIX'S extras include something you never see in a making of documentary -- the star of the film screaming and acting like a maniac on the set! Yes, this great DVD includes Mr. James Garner...

Walmart story about DVDs going the way of 8 tracks

8-Tracks??? DVD going the way of the 8-track? Do you remember 8-Tracks? 8-tracks literally had songs stop for a few moments right in the middle of a song so the darn thing could jump to the next program and continue the song. 8-track tapes had to go. DVDs are, and will always be, compact...

Commentaries You Listened to Where You Knew More than the Participants

THE TOWERING INFERNO - The absolute worst commentary of them all. "Film historian" F.X. Feeney provides an astonishingly moronic commentary. I'll give one example: throughout the commentary he keeps calling the two children that Newman rescues "deaf children." THEIR MOTHER WAS DEAF, NOT...

King Kong Extended Edition: Nov. 14th

Definitely one of the best releases of the year. I am now just finishing up the extras and they are extensive, entertaining, and informative -- the three things bonus materials should be. One interesting little bit of info. Before watching the extras I just took it as truth that Andy...

King Kong Extended Edition: Nov. 14th

Very good additional scenes. I watched it yesterday and the new minutes are actually quite good. If you like JAWS, you'll love the swamp scene. How that scene was completely cut and ten minutes of bronto stampede was left in is beyond me. The film is actually better than it was in the...
