Thanks.
If the above list is accurate, then it looks to me as if Olive selected its 49 titles based on two rules:
A) Still under copyright (46 cartoons); or if not, then reused in the 1995 anthology film Betty Boop Confidential (2 cartoons: Betty Boop's Rise to Fame, Poor Cinderella) or picked...
"Changing the cover art" is a rationale that was invented here at HTF. I have seen no indication anywhere else that Warner even realizes the cover art depicted one of the banned cartoons.
The radio silence from Warner seems to suggest they're more likely to have simply shelved the set...
I would, of course; but that's why we at HTF would like you to talk with Warner and investigate further, rather than presume that the case is sure to be settled in our favor.
Ron, Warner has a very bad track record when it comes to box art on animation releases. The case for the recent "Looney Tunes Super Stars: Porky and Friends" featured stills from no less than three cartoons that weren't on the set: Daffy Doodles, Nothing But the Tooth, and Tick Tock Tuckered. It...
Sounds great, but I'll believe it when I see it. At this point, a heavy dose of skepticism is required: Warner has gone out of its way to even brag about the cartoons being omitted. (UPDATE: I just noticed further down the thread that my skepticism was already borne out... this was a false...
WadeM— you seem to be using "Public Domain collections" as a guide to what's in the public domain.
Please don't presume that the makers of these sets are doing their research properly. They're actually being sloppy and illegally releasing copyrighted content.
Here again is your list of the ten...
Echo Bridge is actually missing two more available PD titles, WHOOPS! I'M A COWBOY (1937) and ON WITH THE NEW (1938). I won't try to figure out why.
This raises the available PD total to 44.
Allow me to vouch for Thad's credentials as well.
In 2009, he and I carried out an extensive research project to determine which Tom and Jerry cartoons survived with original titles. In the process, we both looked at dozens of Tom and Jerry 1940s nitrate originals, some in archives and others...

It's my understanding that in the present circumstances, letters/emails may be bottlenecked at entry. The best way to make your feelings known to WB Home Video is actually to leave a review at the DVD's page on amazon.com. (I'd give you the URL, but I haven't left enough postings here for the...
Is HELL'S HEROES still owned by Universal, its original rights holder? In 1930, Walter Lantz released a cartoon parody, HELL'S HEELS, with Oswald Rabbit as a fugitive from justice out west. Loaded with Tex Avery sight gags, this very funy cartoon would make a wonderful DVD bonus. Of course...
