Hey John I would just forget about reading the subtitles (nothing of major importance is said in the movie anyway) just enjoy the spectacle of a man being whipped and tortured for 2 hours and don't miss the Forrest Gump moment near the end it's priceless.
Although it's been a while since I've watched the DVD (I've held off on buying it in hopes of a SE) I think the sound is the one thing that they got right on the original disc so I don't think a DTS track is necessary. It would be nice but if the picture will suffer because of it then I say...
If any reviewer of this movie sets out with an already instilled dislike for Renny Harlin then the review can only go one way. I like some of his stuff so I figure I will come away from this with a slightly more favorable view. still like most movies, I'll wait for the DVD
the sounds good to me as I have all the Matrix movies, ROTK, Crimson Tide & Enemy of The State and if this new Heat SE doesn't have a brand spanking new flawless transfer I won't be buying that.
I wonder if they will release the 2 different versions as a set or seperately. Knowing the way studios like to milk these things it'll probably be both.
Stir of Echoes gets played a lot in my house. Very good all round spooker. I've always been pleased with the original version and as the supplementals don't look too enticing I think I'll skip this one but if will be nice for those who haven't bought it yet. Check out the car ride at the end and...
re the PAL - NTSC conversions, I have a JVC DVD player which does the conversion and all my PAL discs (about 40% of my collection) look as good as the NTSC discs.
haven't heard a lot of them (not my bag) but of those that I have.... The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band 9.5 The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds 8 Led Zeppelin, IV 8 Neil Young, Harvest 7 The Eagles, Desperado 9.5 The Doors, The Best of the Doors 9 Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of...
Those few scenes that Lyle listed above (nail through the hand etc) ARE included in the 92 DC are they not. I got rid of my DVD so I can't check. That's what I meant by there being very little difference in the multiple versions. The voice over never bothered me as there is so little of it...
I really can't understand why people have such an distaste for certain versions of this movie. The differences between them as far as I know are minimal. A few seconds cut or added here and there and the voice over in or out. Blade Runner has been my favorite movie since the day I first saw it...
I picked it up today too. After watching disc One I must say I'm very pleased. There was a slight distortion in the picture at the beginning of one of the episodes but apart from that it looked marvellous. What a great show. Can't wait for seasons 2 & 3
I inadvertantly bought a chinese bootleg a couple of days ago at a respectable used DVD/CD/BOOK store near me. It had chinese writing on the cover but I thought it was a ligit import of "Dead Poets Society" someone had got rid of. When I got home and looked at the cover closer I noticed 1...
I don't get the SPR comparison either. I don't see how you can say Private Ryan didn't want to be found when he didn't even know they were looking for him till they found him. He just didn't want to leave his brothers. Totally different scenario from someone who is running away from something...
Me too. I bought both previous versions and neither had what I would call a satisfactory transfer. Some scenes look pretty good but a lot look very grainy and dirty. I'm not buying it again unless it gets a new transfer.
When disco started depends on your definition of disco. Of course when it did start it wasn't called disco music. Kool & The Gang had top 40 hits (Jungle Boogie and Hollywood Swingin') as early as Jan 1974. But people like Barry White, Harold Melvin and the O'Jays were doing dance orientated...
