I actually read it the same way as Tony, but if that's the case, it should actually be 'sprinting into his FIFTH decade.' 2009 should have marked the end of his 4th decade.
I live in the U.S., and I've bought a TON of Region 2 British comedy, due to the fact that they were never available here in the States. Many of them, however have since become available here, but I didn't know if they ever would. Some of the ones I imported are: League of Gentlemen (all 3...
Completely agreed - that was actually the point I was trying to make. I was just referring to the fact that even after we've established what we're talking about and cleared up the misunderstanding, there was still one very determined holdout...
I've DEFINITELY always heard the term "flipper" in reference to a double sided disc. You have to "flip" the disc to get to the other side is the way that I assumed it was being used. I've NEVER heard it to refer to the hinged, second tray in a dvd case. Then again, I think this has turned into...
For me, off the top of my head (and this DOES NOT include series that I'm current on, but only ones that are available complete and I have them):
Get Smart
Monty Python
League of Gentlemen
Arrested Development
Police Squad
Dead Like Me
Friends
Seinfeld
Six Feet Under
Da Ali G...
Yeah, I actually caught it not too long ago on AMC and it definitely wasn't too good, but I'm just one of those completists who would probably buy it if it was cheap enough. Thanks for the info and the link Harry!
Does anyone know if the tv movie starring Michael Chiklis as Curly from 2000 has ever been released or is ever being planned for release? I figure with the chronological collections doing so well and the Farrelly brothers movie in the works, we might see something on it. I did some research but...
There is at least one (maybe two) episodes of the great british sitcom "One Foot In The Grave" that consist entirely of just the main character, Victor, doing a monologue for the whole episode. Unfortunately, I can't remember which episode(s), or if they can be found on the current Region 1...
No prob! Yeah, the skull looks really cool on your shelf (especially next to the mausoleum of the first season), but I had to return it twice in order to get a set without damaged discs. And, I pretty much never return anything!
Here's one that I don't believe has been mentioned: Masters Of Horror, Season 2 - I love the show, and I can even get behind the concept of the packaging (a horror show in a skull shaped box - it almost creates itself). But, when you open it up, the discs are just standing upright, loose...
Great review, thanks Matt! I definitely thought this is one of the stronger seasons they've had so far. Some of my favorite episodes would probably have to be: With Apologies to Jesse Jackson, Cartman Sucks, Snuke, Imagination Land (of course), and my personal favorite - Le Petite...
Count me as another person who would be EXTREMELY excited if this turns out to be true. Both a full set or season sets would be a release date purchase for me.
I'm sure it's too late, but my favorite has always been from Police Squad: "I'm sorry ma'am. We would have been here sooner, but your husband wasn't dead yet."
So true, my friend, so true... I always march right in the store ready to make the scene (especially something like this, where technically, I AM right), but end up chickening out when I get up there. I'm such a non-confrontationalist. Yep, that's probably a word - in fact, you might say I'm...
Even on manufacturer's coupons? It doesn't seem that they would be allowed to do that. I know that I've used manufacturer's coupons on sale items at Best Buy. It's probably the fact that this one makes it SO cheap that they even notice and wonder if they shouldn't put their foot down. Plus...
It doesn't really sound like he's complaining, just wondering what's going on before he spends the money. I'm a bit curious too, cause I'd rather wait a little bit if they're planning a re-release to tie in with the movie.
Alex, Not sure about online, but I know I've still seen copies of the Mausoleum set at a few locations of Best Buy as recently as last week, so you could get lucky there. I've already got it, so I didn't really take notice of what price that they are currently selling it for, sorry. Hope that...
These are definitely very valid concerns with waiting on buying tv on dvd. Another, of course, is that by waiting on buying something, lower sales means less chance of subsequent seasons of that show being released.
I'd also HIGHLY recommend a couple of British comedies. If you like 'em dark, then I'd definitely go with League of Gentlemen (one of my all time fav shows). For slightly less dark, and a little more universal, there is One Foot in the Grave. Only the first four series are out so far, but they...
Unfortunately, I read it the same way as Ron in that they are only talking about shows that have already had a proper release. I hope we're wrong, cause I'd love to have some of the shows that have never been released, even if they don't have a nice, fancy case to go along with it.
While not a recent release, the most recent show that I picked up was Soap. I bought all four seasons from Amazon when they were (maybe still are?) having that buy one get one free sale. I was able to get all four seasons for the price of two. I've made it almost all the way through season...
Yeah, I would have to completely agree with Radioman (I usually do agree with fellow Pythoniacs). I so much wanted to like the movie cause I was such a big fan of the show when I was a kid. I tried so hard, but, like Radioman said, the mummy section was okay at best, and it went downhill from...
Hope this isn't a dumb question - I'm a huge MST3K fan, but what are the KTMA episodes? Are they pre-season 1? Or are they episodes that revolve around movies released by a certain studio who won't release rights? And, what is the reasoning for them not releasing them?
I might also be inclined to throw in some Get Smart (such a wonderful dvd set), Seinfeld (yeah, I know this is a no-brainer, but I had to say it anyway), or maybe (on the cartoon front) Danger Mouse. I was trying to think of shows that are already COMPLETE on dvd, as who knows when this strike...
I was always a fan of this as well, and I'm definitely enjoying getting to see them again on Sci-Fi and Chiller, along with Monsters, which also pops up from time to time on Chiller. I would definitely buy both of these in a heartbeat. I agree with a poster above - I enjoy my Tales From The...
The strike has actually given me a chance to catch up on a lot of the TV on DVD's that I've collected over the years, but haven't had a chance to watch yet. Not that I can't wait for it to be over, but I guess the strike is at least helping me feel as if I haven't wasted money over the years. I...
Like Andy said, I went ahead and picked up the R2 version, and was able to get both Series 1 & 2. Pretty good set overall. As far as the R1 goes, my guess would be to not hold your breath. Unlike most British Television shows, this one was being released without it ever (I don't think) having...
