Let me rephrase the question... Will it make a difference whether I use a 30-foot DVI cable to connect to my HDTV, versus using a 30-foot HDMI cable with a DVI adapter? I know that HDMI cables are rated for longer distances, but does this even make a difference given that the SOURCE is DVI...
I'd like to connect my computer to my LG 42LB5D to use as a second monitor. What difference would it make if I connect it straight via DVI, or if I get a DVI to HDMI cable?
I found where I read about the expanded unicorn scene. Charles de Lauzirika gave an interview way back in 2002 about the new cut for Video Premiere magazine. I had to resort to the internet archive to find it:
VP: How is the unicorn sequence different now?
Lauzirika: It's just more obviously a...
I thought I'd read that the real unicorn footage (as opposed to the "outtake" in the director's cut) had been found and would be included in the final cut. Did I just imagine this?
Okay, four-disc-set means the movie is split across two, and there are two discs of extras. Plus NC-17 means at least as uncut as the Japanese version. I'm in!
Unlikely that Warner would create such a lavish box set for a relatively small Australian market, and ignore the giant market in the U.S.
I myself would still buy the cheaper set (assuming there is one). The only extra here that makes me reconsider is that spinner model. Assuming it's well done...
Pretty sure I read it in The Conversations. (Absolute MUST READ for any film buff or aspiring filmmaker!!!)
Anyhow, does anyone know if Harrison Ford's son actually sounds like him? Why not Harrison himself? His voice hasn't changed that much.
You may be thinking of Martin Sheen's brother, who does commercials and documentaries, and sounds exactly like his brother. In fact, I believe it was Martin Sheen's brother who actually did a lot of the narration in Apocalypse Now...
P.S.: Sorry for the off-topic post. I'm looking forward to...
Yeah, what a shame there isn't a behind-the-scenes documentary. I'd love to see the Dino de Laurentiis documentary "The Last Movie Mogul" on DVD some day. As I recall, it features a great impersonation by John Milius of Dino pitching his version of Flash Gordon. Didn't somebody mention a...
I'm coming late into this thread, but I think regardless of what Dino's intentions were, the camp that ended up in the movie is obviously intentional (as opposed to the unintentional camp in the original serials). Dino DID want a serious film of Star Wars caliber (or greater), and according...
Yeah, I would love a release of the American Godzilla 1985 as well. Although I usually prefer the Japanese originals, the Raymond Burr version is much more fun and entertaining than the somber original. It's also a wonderful cold war time capsule. (In the American version, the dialogue was...
Jim, are you playing this on a progressive scan set? The first Gojira DVD also had interlacing issues on progressive sets, and yes, I believe this is a flagging issue. I was hoping this would be fixed with the new titles.
Not only is RETURN OF G not anamorphic, it's a horribly soft transfer. As far as I'm concerned, you might as well watch a VHS. The Toho R2 DVD looks a million times better. (Of course, no English subs on the Toho...)
Whether picture information is being cut off is irrelevant. What matters is which aspect ratio the movie was composed for by its director and cinematographer. Many movies that are shot 1.85 are shot open-matte, but that doesn't mean the filmmakers intended for you to see that extra information...
There seems to be some conflicting information here and at dvdtalk that I hope someone can definitively clear up. Is "The Incredible Shrinking Man"... a) an anamorphic transfer of the film in its correct widescreen aspect ratio (no cropping)? OR b) a transfer of a movie that was...
Dust and scratches aside, a proper non-interlaced release should be expected of any decent DVD in this day and age. I hope the other Godzilla releases from CM will be progressive.
According to dvdbeaver, this release is interlaced. Count me disappointed. Has anyone else tried to play it back on a progressive scan set and experienced combing?
The PAL laserdiscs in question look CONSIDERABLY better than the domestic NTSC ones. It's not just about the increased resolution. The PAL master was actually a much better transfer.
How come the DVDTalk review says the aspect ratio is 2.20:1? Is this a typo? The two previous releases were 2.0:1. Are we actually going to get more image this time around?
They could, but you wouldn't be gaining any extra picture information, which is the whole point of anamorphic video. This has been covered a few times already in this thread. I think most people asking for anamorphic transfers are asking for NEW transfers, not conversions from non-anamorphic...
I strongly disagree. The whole point is to preserve the films as they existed in their original theatrical release. The effects in those films were a milestone, and dated as they may be by today's standards, they are an important part of film history.
The DVD Times page got updated with another photo of what's inside, and some additional new info: Anamorphic Widescreen Transfers English DD5.1 Surround English and Spanish subtitles Commentary by Francis Ford Coppola Watch Apocalypse Now with Francis Ford Coppola Marlon Brando's...
I think Coppola should just record a commentary track for HoD. He said that certain scenes misrepresent him because the footage is shown out of context ("Martin Sheen's not dead till I say he's dead."). A commentary track would give him the perfect chance to put those scenes in perspective.
While I agree that this is a great DVD release in almost every way, I can't agree that the digital restoration looks stupendous - not when there are other truly pristine restorations to compare it to (many of which also did not have access to the original negative).
