You need to look used. I don't think I have one piece of equipment that was bought new except for my SVS sub. Anyway, I just picked up an used Denon 2807 that meets all your requirments (and then some) for $325. Oh well, budgets were meant to be broken :)

^^^ As mentioned above you need to check the players specs. Some will do 5.1 analog, some 7.1, and some such as the Denon 2500 or PS3, none at all.

This is the first time I've ever heard someone hating the DVD picture on a HD display. Are you sure you just don't hate it because you don't have a HD display? I hate Ferrari's.

Nobody is talking about the audio on these players. Why? I have the 2900, one of the biggest reasons I got this unit several years back now was because of the excellant audio for a universal player.

Everything in my system is used except for my Denon2805. I have had absolutely no problems with buying used audio/video equipment. Just make sure you buy it from a repitutable site like here or audiogon and that the person has good feedback.

Heck I went to Walmart and got a powered anntena (around $30) that pulls in all the HD channels available in my area. I would start with a cheaper anntena in the basement, see if you get reception, and go from there.

I had the superones up front and superzeroes in the rear for a few years and really enjoyed the setup, espicaily at the price. I switched to the ModeII NHT towers up front and it was a nice upgrade. You lose some of that legendary imaging of the supers, but gained a more 'full' soundstage. You...
