From memory, the rights to the Paramount films that Hitchcock owned (Rope, Rear Window, The Trouble with Harry, The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) and Vertigo) passed to Pat after her father's death and were then sold to Universal in 1983.

I wouldn't expect it to stay too long at that price -- Zavvi/The Hut regularly do really good offers for short periods that undercut their rivals, mostly to draw customers onto the site. I think if Universal's distributors were already shipping the set in the UK, the titles would have started...

I think Deepak meant that "The Birds" wasn't released as part of the "Legacy" Hitchcock DVDs (which were individual releases of the transfers used in the 2005 "Masterpiece" velvet box set). Universal were planning to release it in 2008, but ended up shelving it (for reasons unknown).
