Sean, you should try XM with the Optical Digital out. It makes XM sound EXTREMELY close to CD. Ron's got one of these, so he can tell you about it.

Ron, you definately have to sample the audio through the optical out using the DAC in your high end home stereo. I assume you used the skyfi before?

I will concede that the DAC in the SKYFI is pretty weak. The Roady and Commander have a much better one. The Optical Out is mostly for the home, but some people have already been interested in it for their vehicles. The sound quality in a car really cannot be judged as most vehicles have so...

There are ways you can get anoptical output from your XM receiver. That modification puts to rest any sound quality doubts you may have as to XM not being as good as Sirius - which is a subjective thing for the most part.

No, XM uses a completely different set of frequencies to transmit its signal (around 2.3 Ghz, as opposed to around 12.5Ghz for Sat. TV). Also XM has the most poserful commercial satellites constructed to date pumping out about 3,000 Watts each. Rain fade is definately a non-issue with XM.
