BryanF: Why dont you do the mod that a few of us were talking about? Get a 12V AC Adaptor, plug it into the back of your receiver, connect it to a couple of 80mm computer case fans, and put those fans above your receiver. You can adjust the voltage, so the fans run even slower. I have 2...
I originally had my 6.1 setup according to the 6.1 diagrams on the Dolby website. But I had to adjust it to fit my room. Now I have my rear L/R speakers just below the 8' ceiling, slightly behind the main listening position, tilted slightly inwards (towards the front), and tilted down at the...
So yesterday I finally went ahead and did this project for the rear 2 speakers. I removed a speaker, then drilled a hole behind it. Then I tied my 3 foot chain to a nylon string (3ft chain was leftover at home depot, so I just bought it rather than finding someone to cut me a new one). I...
Laymen terms: 16 / 9 = 1.78:1 NOT 2.35:1 NOT 1.85:1 1.85 is close enough so that the image is scaled to fit the screen. But 2.35 is too much, and would ruin the film if stretched to fill the screen. So until they make TVs that are 2.35:1, then there will be empty spaces above and...
Oh...! That 2x4 at the bottom, right right. Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I'll see what I can do, and I'll let you guys know how it went. Thanks again!
"spring-steel wire" ? Is this just steel wiring? "steel tape" ? I did a search, and came up with steel tape measures? Are you guys just suggestion something stronger than fishing wire? My concern would be how 'straight' a stronger wire would be, since I need to be able to feed it inside...
I had recently did a quick install of my 'bedroom' home theater (20" LCD, glass shelves underneath it for the equipment, 5.1 speakers). The speakers were wall mounted at about 5' high. The speaker wire was just run from the receiver at the front, down to the floor, then under the wall (where...
I have the KP-65WV700 and I had flicker problems. Call your local Sony Service Center and get them to fix it, it's covered under warranty as it was a defect: http://products.sel.sony.com/SEL/ser.../flicker.shtml You should do a search for this "flicker" problem, it's been well documented...
I was just looking at the Lutron IR dimmers at home depot yesterday. If I get 2 of them, do they use the same frequency? I would like to program them into my MX-700 remote, so that I can control them simultaneously. TIA!
Yes, I guess what I'm after is turning off 'normalization' for the DD track. Because it definitely sounds like the higher highs and the lower lows have been chopped off, compared to the DTS track. As of right now, if I were to close my eyes and listen to one track, then the other, it's very...
Sorry to stir up an old thread, but I'm still puzzled about how I can get a DD track to sound as 'loud' and full as the DTS track? I have the Yamaha HTR-5550 receiver, and a Panny RP-82 DVD player, connected with an optical cable. So is there a setting on the receiver for 'night mode'? So...
Basically it comes down to the age old question of DD vs DTS: http://www.5point1.com/dts/battle.html As that website shows, DD is a highly compressed format compared to DTS, which may account for the loudness you describe when switching to DTS. From my own personal experience, I...
Oh, WAL-MART. The original post said "wall wart" which threw me off :S Yeah, we have walmarts up here. Peter Jessee: So did you just snip off the connector on that adjustable powers supply, and soldier on the leads from the fans? And how many fans did you have hooked up to it? Thanks!
I lucked out and got the Weird Science DVD for $7.99+tax! They must have screwed up the pre-order price a few weeks ago. I was shocked when I saw it on the website for $16.99 after discount. :emoji_thumbsup:
Thanks for the suggestions guys. My only concern with the AC fans is that they're generally pretty big. It would be optimal if I used 80mm computer fans, then cut some 3" diameter holes in the top of the cabinet, and mount a couple of 80mm fans to exhaust the air up and out of the cabinet...
I've got my equipment in a AV cabinet with a glass door, and no backing. Obviously my equipment (especially my Yamaha HTR-5590 receiver) gets pretty hot in there. Instead of getting a new AV shelving system with no sides, what can I do to improve ventilation? I was thinking about adding...
Basically. But you don't want to simply turn everything down. Too dark is no good, plus it will ruin your enjoyment of the picture quality.
At least get this S&V calibration disc:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846
It can be had for under $20USD. It's better than nothing.
Well what IS "Burn In"? It's basically when static graphics are on the screen for an extended period of time, "burning in" that image into the screen. So logically, it would be safer to at least vary what you watch, so that that portion of the screen doesn't get 'overused.' Ultimately...
I just tackled a similar problem last night when I tried to watch Gladiator in DTS-ES mode. My DVD player has an optical cable connection to my receiver, so I was getting Dolby Digital just fine. But when I tried to play the DTS track, I got no audio. The problem was my DVD player was...
I actually ordered the Xitel pro last week, it should be here sometime next week. But the main reason I got it was because it comes with 30' of Optical, 30' of Coaxial cable and 30' of RCA Audio cable, that alone offsets the cost significantly. I'm actually going to use the optical cable to...
Don't give in to BURN-IN PARANOIA, you will Never win.
Just calibrate your set, and enjoy your home theater. No sense dropping the big bucks, then worry about what you can or cannot watch on it. Just remember not to leave static images on the screen for hours on end (black bars are ok for...
When I goto the bonus materials, then press OK on the Q&A with Zemekis, I get booted back to the main screen. The other features on that page work fine when I press OK on them. Anyone else notice this? FYI, I've got a Panny RP82, Thanks.
Like Matt referred to, the primary concern is with the Static Images displayed by most video game systems (i.e. health meter, time, maps, etc). But it's really no different from the sports or stock ticker graphics on some channels. If a static graphic is constantly displayed on the RPTV screen...
Are you sure you're not just seeing the 'darker' sides that are typical of a RPTV? Y'know how the middle of the screen is typically brighter, and the sides aren't as bright. Maybe after a year, the sides got a bit darker, therefore more noticeable?
