Mark: in this situation, I would advise not using a center channel speaker at all.
Set your receiver's speaker management system to "No center" and the center info will be redirected to the front left & right speakers. The disadvantage to this configuration is that people seated off to the...
Hi Jay,
Placing speakers intended for HT use in or next to the ceiling is pretty much the worst location possible. You won't have a home theater, instead, what you'll have is a set of speakers that happen to be in the same room with a TV i.e. the sound will not match up with the image - NOT good.
Besides the fat/calorie issue, this is the reason I don't like drinking anything but skim milk nowadays - just too much creeeeeeaminess. It took me awhile to get used to the relatively watery sensation of skim but after a week or so, I didn't notice it anymore (but we keep some whole milk around...
I read plenty of surveys and articles about the fact more and more kids don't like milk, but I do not recall any ever mentioning WHY they don't like it.
And where are they getting their calcium from now, if not from milk? I know broccolli for example is (surprisingly) supposed to be a good...
Thanks Jeff!
I wasn't even sure if anyone would read this - what the heck....a thread about bread in a can?! - much less reply.
My buddy is telling me as I write this that he's seen B&M brown bread somewhere in Houston, but can't remember where (maybe down here it's just a seasonal thing?)...
I need some help from my northeastern brothers and sisters.
I like traveling and eating, and one of the sites I use to help me find places for quality cuisine is roadfood.com (click on "Restaurants" for the search feature; most of the photos on that site are excellent). While puttering around...
I'm glad it worked out for you. I wish CV's speakers were sold more widely though, in particular at brick-n-mortar stores. So many young people are growing up thinking (not their fault) that music should only be listened to via the cheapo earbuds their MP3 player came with. I have nothing...
Well the fact they are still selling the LOVE dvd-audio seems to indicate they think hi-res multichannel music sells decently, so I think there's a good chance of that.
BTW the format they used was 192kHz.
Personally what I am hoping for is faithful remixes (of the albums that can be remixed)...
Statistically speaking, I would agree with you that the problem is probably with the turntable (25 years for a highly mechanical piece of gear vs. 6 months for something with no moving parts).
So just buy this turntable and I'm sure all your problems will be solved.
I don't usually pick small details out of peoples' messages, but I wanted to say something about this: the 1080i (interlaced) system doesn't actually skip i.e. leave out any visual information; instead, it "draws" half the frame on the screen using every other line in a frame, then immediately...
Hey John, the link to that receiver ended up going to one of those funky....whatever....pages with a bunch of vaguely-related links instead of the actual vintagetechnics site, which has the ".info" domain ending instead of ".com".
I found this though...
Maybe this receiver will work for you (MSRP $299):
Sherwood RX-5502 Multi-Source/Dual-Zone 400 Watt Stereo Receiver
Based on skimming through its downloadable manual, it looks like it can play one source & power a pair of speakers in one room, and it can play a 2nd source via another pair of...
Dave: I found this preamp using TCC-750 in google and it seems straightforward i.e. no extra controls or inputs (say, for a moving coil cartridge) so unless it is defective, the scratchy noise maybe/possibly/could be coming from the type of cable being used to connect the turntable to the...
What model specifically? There are many Technics tables, from entry-level belt drives costing $150 (today's dollars) to $500 direct-drive models still sold now some music labels use these days to archive their own vinyl to digital form when they can't find the master tapes.
Does the tonearm use...
Since this theatrical subwoofer system debuted years before many of HTF's members were born, I thought it would be interesting to post about this theater-based subwoofer system. And if anyone was there when it debuted - I was! - go ahead & post your own impressions of it for this trip down...
Dustin: while most CVs are very efficient, many of them that I have seen (and sold when I worked at a big-box store) have 4 ohm impedance ratings. A lower impedance (impedance = electrical resistance) does not mean they are lower quality than a speaker with a higher impedance, it just means that...
Sounds like you already own a subwoofer - what brand & model is it?
An "outlet plug"? If this is a typical surround sound receiver - is it a Yamaha, Pioneer or....? - there will be a small round jack (technically called an RCA phono jack) on the rear panel labeled something like "SUB OUT" or...
"Interconnect" is just a more hi-tech :) way of referring to an audio cable, the ones used to connect analog & digital components together. But also, since "cable" can also refer to the wires connecting speakers to a receiver, using "interconnect" in certain discussions can help avoid confusion.
Sounds like something is loose. Possibly:
* a strand of wire (either + or -- ) on one of the speaker cables is touching something it shouldn't and shorting out the amplifier and sending the receiver into its protection mode, most likely the other speaker lead. Check carefully, this can be...
Whew that was close! I've been seriously considering a pair of their floorstanders, so this is good news. I've heard about them for years, a kinda quirky - in a good way! - manufacturer but they build great speakers that don't cost much for what you get (which is what pre-1995 Advent [R.I.P.]...
I'm just guessing but I am pretty sure this is happening mostly because:
1) the price of raw metal has been climbing higher & higher at scary rates for the past few years and since a receiver's power amp uses lots of it - the power transistors' heat sinks* of course but in particular the power...
Norm, unless they have changed its design recently, in my opinion that Bose center sounds awful (to my ears it has no midbass, has blurry high frequencies & IMO overall sounds like a $40 boombox). And I say that as a member who has regularly recommended certain other Bose speakers* because I...
I've never heard the Icons (I've seen them though at Busted Buy) but have heard previous Klipschs sold at BB, so I hope these new models sound better. It's not like I think the previous ones sound bad, but they don't sound like the Klipschs I grew up with, which IMO had a more fun and lively...
IMO the only speaker I've heard under $300 that is warm and has good-enough bass output for most R&R is that Cambridge SoundWorks Model 6. It's been manufactured since the early 90s so I am sure that's partly why it is so inexpensive. They employ an acoustic-suspension (sealed) enclosure for...
Analog (audio) lives! I am also a weather geek* so hence the slightly off-topic post. NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards network excerpt:
Though as far as I know, NOAA still broadcasts a conventional signal for owners of conventional weather radios. Lots of weather radios at the...
