Since you are in the $1200-$1500 range with sub it may be of great interest for you to check out a thread over at avs. The thread, Listening session in Los Angeles this weekend, compares Axiom, Ascend, Aperion and Onix Rockets. All of them are approximately in the same ballpark price range...
You could try calling JBL's tech support. When I did they said the speaker was definitely shielded and if I did end up buying the center and it had issues to call them back. They were very helpful. Perhaps they can help diagnose if what you are experiencing is "out of the ordinary" and if so...
You may want to check out the new Ascend Center speaker (340c) as it is 7.5" x 21" x 10.5". I love my 340c... it is really an excellent speaker and MAY work in your circumstances. I'd send them an email and ask them about usage in your circumstances. Matthew
Many people debate the question of musical vs. HT oriented speakers. I feel similar to Stevie. I think that "a good musical speaker will be a good HT speaker. BUT a good HT speaker is not necessarily a good musical speaker." You may want to check out the Ascend line of speakers. Many people...
David, If you are worried about people abusing the speakers and you get a sub I would be sure to get a downfiring box sub. I have a 25-31PC+ and my wife "watered" it while watering the plants in the house. I just about freaked when my wife called me at work to tell me! In fairness it was an...
Information on the 340c is now available on the Ascend website. You can find it here or under "products>home_theater>centers". (For some reason it is not listed under "products>speakers" yet.) Matthew
Thought I would pass this on... Best Buy has the white N26AW II on sale for $99 a pair. Not sure how long this deal will last but thought it would be helpful to some of you out there! Matthew
I know that Fry's Electronics carries Dahlquist speakers in SOME of their shops. I think the nearest to the Bay Area is Sacramento though. That is probably a good 1.5 hour journey for you if they still have them. The Dahlquists do come highly recommended by many people and audioshop (and Marc...
Found a review (http://www.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/1041.html)that may be interesting to you. It is subjective and not hard on "hard facts" but interesting none the less. Unfortunately there are some "trolls" down in the comments section but I think you can see what a class act those at...
If you do get Axioms, and are sure of the purchase, I too would recommend getting them through marc at audioshop.on.ca. He also offers the best prices I have found but at the cost of not having an in home audition. He is very honest and will help you determine if the Axiom sound is right for...
Eddie, Many people love HT and audio but are on very tight budgets. To some $500-600 for a subwoofer is truely pushing their limits. Please don't assume that money lost to auditioning or as a premium for some debatable difference is always OK. I think it is demeaning to many and reflects...
IMHO, Axiom makes some very nice speakers but they are not for me. Let me clarify. My father has some Axiom M3Tis, QS4s and a VP100. (Yes, they are a step down from what you are considering.) I really like their imaging and soundstage. They generally sound incredible in the room he has them...
I *think* comparing prices the SVS 20-39PC+ to the EP350 is like comparing apples to oranges. You may want to ask Tom V. at SVS what he thinks is approximately comparable. You may be suprised. SVS has always responded very quickly and honestly to all my inquiries! :) Matthew
Well I think *most* people would agree that you should stay away from Bose speakers. Bose simply are not a good value for your dollar. If you have any doubts search for BOSE on this forum. ;) As far as the other brands go, I think many on this forum would disagree with those lists. There are...
I have a Sony 4ES and will be pairing them with some ascends at somepoint in the near future. I have been very happy with the 4ES so far. The only thing I miss is there is no "5 Channel Stereo" setting, or its equivelent, that tha Denons and others have. Matthew
I own the Energy Take 5.2s with an SVS 25-31PC+ sub. Personally I think the Take 5.2s are great speakers and I would say, IMHO, the best I could have bought at the time. If you are worried about the Take 5.2s build quality you may want to look at Axiom Micro's as they are similar in capability...
Tom, IF you did go into more than *just* subwoofers would SVS ("Stimpson Vodhanel Subwoofers" or "SV Subwoofers") still be SVS or would you look at a name change? ;) Best of luck on whatever new ventures SVS undertakes! Matthew
Ashan, Since you seem to be interested in both the Axiom and Dahlquist speakers give Marc at Audioshop.on.ca an email about your specific questions. He is very helpful in contrasting the Dahlquists and the Axiom speakers. As for local locations to audition Dahlquists try emailing them at...
Very true! The only caution I would give is IF you get a sony receiver don't get anything below the ES line. I personally have a Sony DA4ES and love it but have heard a lot of complaints with their "lower end" receivers. Matthew
Taylor, All the above suggestions are good ones. I think the best speaker for you in your home theater may be different from mine and everyone elses. Speakers have very different sounds and while most people can agree (somewhat) on some "objective" features such as frequency response, build...
Marc at http://audioshop.on.ca/ is very respected on this board and sells Dahlquist. I personally have bought some Axioms from him and have found him VERY helpful and honest when it comes to speakers. He also sells Axioms, Totems and just stopped selling Paradigm so he could probably help you...
Don't want to take this thread off topic, but perhaps we could include Ascend Acoustics in here? I am looking to audition the new Ascend center soon and hopefully will have a chance to compare (with my ears) the QX10, Rockets and Ascends and report back within the near (2-3 week) future. Matthew
You can contact dahlquistaudio at [email protected] to see if there is anywhere relatively local that carries them so you can take a listen. Atleast this can give you an idea of what they sound like. (i.e. I found that a FEW of the fry's electronics carry them in CA / NV.) Hope this...
I too am VERY, VERY eager to see what people have to say here. Hopefully some comparisions of the Rockets and Dahlquist. I have been looking all over, unsuccessfully, for them. How bout it? Someone? Matthew
