Star Wars: The Last Jedi discussion thread(Warning: Spoilers!)

Saw the movie last Friday with my 8 year old son. Honestly I don't think I liked it very much. The Leia space scene was so ridiculous and stupid it really made me shake my head. The rest of the movie was kind of jumbled mess that could have used better editing. I did like Poe and his storyline...

A Unique experience with 'Elephants Dream' HD DVD

I've had this title for a few months now and tried to get it listed in the hd-dvd tier thread at avsforum but they wouldn't let it in since I was the only one that had the title at the time. It's a awesome looking short film.

Coming soon to HD DVD: THE PRESTIGE

Maybe the HD-DVD release can cut out the last 20 mins of the movie and save it? The ending of this movie killed it more than an ending of any movie ever. The HD-DVD will have non sucking branching so that the last 20 mins download a decent ending from the internet and seamlessly plays it for you.

Yet, another Fox BR title delayed.

Piracy will never ever be stopped. If you can play or view a piece of media it can be pirated, there is no possible way to ever get around this, no amount of money or technology will stop it, unless you are like Fox and simply don't release it even then realese can get leaked to the net before...

    A retailer's comment on HD

"Yeah, but your old discs would still be using old compression techniques." I'll buy new discs on one of the current fomrats. "Unless I missunderstood you comment, it sounded like you were saying that the current HD releases can't be improved upon?" No I'm mainly saying that both HD-DVD...

    A retailer's comment on HD

"but HD compression techniques can always be improved upon" The current disc technologies would allow of improvement of codecs without needing a completely new format. Even if we were eventually given a format with completely lossless raw HD video on a disc, we're talking discs that could...

    A retailer's comment on HD

Personally I could care less about the format war. I'm neutral now, I picked up the HD-DVD 360 add-on for $200 and now have 70 HD-DVD's. A couple of weeks ago I picked up the Panasonic BLU-RAY player for 800$ and now have about 15 BLU-RAY movies. I don't care who wins or if no one wins what I...

How is EXCALIBUR on HD DVD?

I've seen about every version of this movie including the INHD cable version, it is one of my favorites, the HD-DVD version is the best looking by far. The way this movie was filmed and the condition of the master, this is the best this movie will ever look, short of someone re-mastering it to...

Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

How is this player as a cd player? If I get a blu ray player it will have to replace my Pioneer 47ai as my main cd player as I have no more space or inputs for another device.

A Conversation with Universal Studios Home Entertainment

"Even if you're paying $25 per title that's still a $5+ dollar premium over non-combo pricing." But that title can play in any DVD player in the world and is a lot more convenient and portable. It also allows you to sell off your SD collection of movies. Compare that to the 40$ Fox Blu-ray...

A Conversation with Universal Studios Home Entertainment

If your paying more than 25$ for an HD-DVD even if it's a combo your shopping at the wrong places. I have over 40 HD-DVD's and have yet to have to pay over 25$ for any of them even combo's. Amazon used sections and even Ebay will get you these discs a lot cheaper than your standard electronic store.

Where are the Hitchcock titles that were mentioned to be included at the end of the report?

Okay, Im going to sound crazy here...but I have come to the conclusion that

I think the issue reside in the source material. Movies soundtracks DTS, DD etc are actually low res formats and in general movies are not as complex as music. Movies may on average hit more extreme freq's but they are not nearly as complex. Bascially it's my opinion if you build a system...

The Most Expensive System I've ever heard.

I think nearly every personal home system I've heard has sounded better than most "demo" or dealer systems regardless of the price of either system. I think it has a lot to do with system synergy and the care a person takes to tweak there system to a level they are happy with compared to a demo...

PARADIGM owners - what amp and pre do you use

I use a Bryston 9B THX with my Monitor 11's and CC370. I have a Lexicon MC-1 pre/pro and kept hearing about how good the bryston's were. I was able to pick it up for $1750 used and could not turn it down. Great neutral amp low noise for and very expansive image.

folks with pradigm monitor speakers. what receiver do you use?

    I have Monitor 11's a CC370 and use a Lexicon MC-1 on them.

    Which Pre/Pro to buy?

I'll have to vote for the Lexicon to. I just got a ysed MC-1 and it is really amazing, and it's a 4 year old model and still has more features than most of todays pre/pro's. The MC-8 can do just about everything and do it very well.

    All amplifiers sound alike.........

I must say this has been one of the more polite Obj VS Sub threads in a long long time. I do think there is value in each as long as no one tries to draw absolute truths for either side. Like always the actual truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

    Which Pre/Pro to buy?

Well Miguel since even the objectivists ABX-DBT loyalist here don't even practice these tests on the equipment they buy they can hardly have an issue if others don't. They are simply impractical as even they admit and don't offer anything of real value to the average joe. In the end it's all...

Yea what a hypocrite RoberR Did you ABX your sunfire with other much cheaper amps? and CES my god how could you keep your bias in check at such an event which is just crawling with those Evil Snake oil salesmen :). Shouldn't you have done an ABX test with the sunfire in a proper environment...

    All amplifiers sound alike.........

You know nothing about what your listening, in an ABX but as you state the emotion and knowledge of knowing what you are listeing magically changes your perception. So then the anxiety and stress of testing conditions can also change your emotion thus change your hearing perception. In all...

    All amplifiers sound alike.........

The problem is ABX-DBT still relies on human beings to determine the outcome of the test. ABX-DBT supporters state humans are easily fooled by their emotions in a sighted test, they are also easily confused in having to rely on humans bad short term audible memory in ABX-DBT tests. Humans do...

I would prefer this forum to be a DBT-ABX free zone like a lot of other audio forums. It makes a much calmer nicer time not that this isn't a good board or anything cause I enjoy it as well. Maybe have an audio theory forum for this type of stuff?
