Don't make me take a poll! (Stand forth from out of the woodwork, ya crazies..!) :D Actually, since Dan listed IB as an application for the Parthenon, I took a basket/surround for granted. Maybe Adire is suggesting that no real seal is necessary...? BTW, if anyone's interested, I started...
Thanks for the pic, Seth. Argh! Where's the basket? where's the surround? That diaphragm looks a little like posterboard... My doubts about 121dB @ 20Hz have snapped firmly back into place...
Ok, Dan just filled me in on a few more details, and doggone it if he isn't making more of believer out of me!:D He's still got a little more convincing to do on me before I'm ready to entirely swallow his OB spl claim, but that may just rattle down to a little difference of opinion over what...
Dan, I just double checked my WinISD model. I had a Qms of 7 and a Mms of over 10kg. I adjusted it to a Qms of 30, and Mms came down to a little over 7kg. (Efficiency rose one dB/w to 79 and Vas rose to 1300 liters.) I will assume that this Mms is still too high, but I guess I'll let this...
(I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here :)) I don't know the rest of the parameters, but inferring from the Qts and Fs, and logically assuming a giant Vas, it seems that IB and dipole are about all it's suitable for, unless you're willing to undergo a personal paradigm shift about what...
Fun stuff! Love the name.:emoji_thumbsup: Interesting architecture--actually more standard than I'd expected, and with a slimmer pole than I'd predicted. :b Its look reminds me of the stratospheric Goto stuff from Japan. Hmm. Qts 0.72 and Fs 7Hz. What's the Vas, Dan? ;) (Despair all ye who...
Hi Chris, Good to see you on DIYHTF! Yeah, I think I saw that center section of BL plot you're talking about. It's a whopper. But as cool as the motor will be, the real story here, I believe, is going to be the suspension Adire has come up with to put all that horsepower to ground, so to...
And while all you bass adicts are imagining and wondering what type of subwoofer motor could possibly generate the type of excursion Dan is hinting at, here's a pic from a certain recent U.S. patent application for you to ponder...:D Merry Christmas, Bill
"He that tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted." --John L. Lewis In case anyone still has any doubts...I was right!:D I just came across United States patent application #20030133587 by Hyre, David E., and Wiggins, Daniel C. It's an interesting read--check it out! From...
Wow, I sure don't like to rain on parades, but I gotta back up Dennis here--he's absolutely right. There's no way around significant doppler distortion if you ask a flat-mounted small-dome tweet to also sing alto.
(Quoting from ht-audio.com) "An overhung voice coil is taller than the height of the gap while an underhung voice coil is shorter than the height of the gap. Overhung voice coils are the most common. Underhung voice coils can offer the advantage of a more linear motor strength (BL product)...
Let me first say that I'm a proponent of full/wide-range drivers with a minimum of XO points. However, I can respect the potential benefits of multi-banding. My thinking on this matter is similar to Richard's, with the addition that I would suggest digital crossovers for an all-out attempt...
No grille would speak more eloquently to the aesthetics and priorities of a modern audiophile family-man than a few tasteful vertical stands of chrome-plated wire down the front of the line arrays--with a 500vdc potential on them. Bill (Edit) Or, if you actually love your children, I guess...
Horns are in the hiz-aus! Horns got untouchable skills in terms of dynamics, compression, AMD, and pattern control. Here's a fun mental exercise I've been tweaking recently: A budget version of the Westlake Audio SM-1 (something like 50 grand a pair!). My idea is an all-Selenium...
