Thanks for the great review! :emoji_thumbsup: I'm a big fan of Lang's earlier films (and his American films too but to a lesser degree). Lately Criterion are outdoing themselves and this one is a definite must buy for me.
And you're assuming they got it in stock? From past experience, they list OOP titles, and then when you place the order they find out they cannot source them and cancel the order. I hope for your sake that they DO in fact have some stock of the UTB, but I wouldn't hold my breath.. The...
Wow Chris, so many mistakes in one post..
digi Beta is digital, not analog - that's why it's called DIGI Beta. The disadvantages of analog vs. digital are well known. Digital however CAN be as good as the best analog theoretically possible, as long as the resolution is high enough. No, we're...
Here's an excerpt from the Ichi The Killer Commentary, done by the director and manga artist: "- I got really irritated by this girl, [actress name], while shooting this scene. - Why? - She was just irritating, and I got even more irritated as the filming went on. [actor is hitting the...
1. Alien Quadrilogy - The amount of effort put into this set is simply mindboggling. 2. LOTR: TTT EE - I have a hard time deciding which is the better movie, this or FOTR, but this set features more interesting and fun special features than those on FOTR EE, which I wouldn't have thought...
That would be odd, as Adam owns a Anthem AVM-20 pre/pro.. If you connect the dvd digitally, then you're using the pre/pro's DACs, and bass management etc.. Of course this means Adam can easily check if the problem is in the Denon dts decoder..
I have no lockups on Alien. I tried the given time frames for both the DC and the Theatrical Cut, and no lock ups whatsoever. Tried both on a Momitsu V-880 and Toshiba SD-3109. But I suspect this is not player related. Adam, what receiver/processor are you using? I've heard from someone...
Ted, The real problem, as I see it, is that the dvd is widescreen but not anamorphic. If it'd been anamorphic, then there wouldn't be any spce left in the black bars for the subtitles... But I know what you mean, since I got my Momitsu I find myself ocassionaly using the Zoom button to...
Cameron, I own a Momitsu V-880, which is essentially the same as the Bravo D1, and had no problems whatsoever. But the Momitsu/Bravo is infamous for such stuttering..
They're very much "watchable" on my 110" screen. Not reference quality to be sure, not even close, but fine and acceptable. Of course, should they improve the A/V quality I'll just have to double dip..
I was able to read it just a while ago, but the "parting thoughts" section was for some other title.. :) I guess that's why they took it off and they'll soon put it back on. I guess.. Anyway, the review was by Peter Brack and Mike, and skipping the unnecessary opinions of the films...
