Why would anyone who owns a widescreen use 4 x 3 anyway? True you need a bigger widescreen than a 4 x 3, but I think most of us watch widescreen DVDs more than 9% of the time.

From what I've seen, settings are different between DVD and ant modes (all of those options), but are the same between Theater1 or 2 or full modes (all of those options). I use Theater1 mode for all viewing except for some DVDs I use Theater2 mode.

I chose the Toshoba 50H81 and could not be happier!

3 day update: make no mistake, we both love this set! I have done the initial stuff and waiting till 100 hrs of use for more fine tuning. Heres my initial 25 hr viewing notes: cable TV - avg, as others have stated, the screen shows basic cable flaws; DirectTV (using S connection) - much better...

Thanks so much SteveA! Once I get the set, I hope I can find in the directions where to make these changes. Since you have one, do you have something to lift the set up to normal viewing position? I am looking at a small (7" high) black two shelf unit that would fit underneath almost perfect...
