Would I need a separate amp to power these speakers in this room?

I think what you should ask yourself is if it seems like the reciever is not giving you enough volume or soundstage presence. Then you look into other options. If you do consider an amp to add, make sure you not only base it on it's watts, but it's current. That has a lot to do with it's...

Denon vs. Onkyo.. you're valued opinion please!

The denon 2802 has the 27mhz for component switching. I believe the 3802 and up have a higher rate. I also suggest to you, that you do not limit yourself to just these. Test out as many brands as possible. While both are great for theatre, they just cannot compete with others in 2 channel music...

    Receiver with real analogue passthrough?

On note of the denons, the 3802 and up have true pure direct. Not any of the models under that, while they have direct, they are not true direct mode.

    Another Which Receiver Question

I don't think that is fair to say not to buy onkyo. It is a preference of what sound you prefer. He may like the onkyo's sound. A lot of it has to do with what speakers are paired with what reciever. My preference is the B&K recievers, but it doesn't mean that others will find it to be the best...

Listening to music with a HT setup.

Since you mentioned you had a b&k amp before, and considered a higher denon model. Have you considered the b&k recievers. They have more current, and sound much more powerful than the denon especially in 2 channel stereo mode. The 5 channel reciever is 3,000 retail.

    Another Which Receiver Question

i think you should just compare all models such as marantz, denon, onkyo, yamaha, in that price range and decide yourself. They all provide a different sound to your speakers. Decide which sound better to you, and which features fit your needs

Receiver preferences - Pioneer 850, Denon 2802, Harman Kardon 320, other?

well, in that price range, i believe i would suggest the denon due to it's full sound in stereo mode. But, as i found out. Spending more on the reciever will make your speakers sound so much better. I suggest you listen to the denon in 2 channel stereo mode, and then listen to the B&K 305...

    B&W CDM's or M&K S150

I will say that i have not heard the m&k but i do love the b&w cdm9nt. I don't know what you guys are listening to them on,but make sure it is at least something better than any of the denon models, or onkyo, ect. Those do not have enough high current to show the capabilities of the b&w, try...

Yamaha RX-V3000 popping and ticking problem

hearing a pop or clicking sound through your speakers when it changes sound format, may not be a problem. it depends on the reciever. when hardware on recievers auto detect the format to play it in, you will hear a click sound through the speakers. This means it is switching to that mode and...

    Bose audition at Fry's

Amps definetly make a difference in sound performance. I just compared many amps the past weeks so i could find the perfect pair for my b&w cdm9nt and most amps will sound quite different. They all can add brightness, warmth,a more laid back neutral sound to your speakers. Go and compare...
