Been meaning to post. Last Sunday I built some shelves to mount my side surrounds as height speakers, swapped my old 3808, and calibrated the receiver. We watched Insurgent. It was a fun movie, the sound....was...amazing. It definitely has me thinking of upgrading from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4. My system...
Got home from Denali Park today to find a big box in my living room from Amazon. My initial thought was that it was some lighting fixtures we ordered it. Opened it up, pulled the wrapping paper out to see a Denon 5200 receiver. Needless to say I was very excited.
Tomorrow I will get it set up...
Finally got to hear an Atmos demo recently and loved it. My ideal set up would be adding this Denon to replace the 3808 I'm currently using as a pre/pro with my Outlaw amp. My side channels are already mounted high and could easily be converted to height channels. My only problem is $ which...
We no longer have any B&M dealers where I live and was finally able to hear a Dolby Atmos demo over the weekend. I was very impressed! An Onkyo 1030 no less. My HT is getting very long in the teeth and desperately needs an upgrade. Would continue to use my current speakers but would need to add...
Thanks for the chance!!!
My receiver is getting very long in the tooth and the chance I will get to upgrade anytime in the foreseeable future is somewhere between slim and none. I've been a huge fan of Onkyo since working at a stereo store in college. Great stuff and highly reliable.
Never saw the thread but I recall hearing about that story on the morning radio show I listen to. I think one guy ran some sort of animal sex farm, pretty disturbing. One of the idiots was on the receiving end of the horse and had his colon punctured.
Both make fantastic products. I have an SVS that I love. One sub that just came out, is in your price range, and is getting a lot of positive feed back is the Onix MFW-15.
I've got about $4k into my speakers and $10k into my whole HT system. For between $1 - 1.5k you can get yourself into a very nice speaker package that will do great for both music and movies. Some other excellent ID companies besides SVS are Ascend, AV123, Aperion, and Axiom. I don't know about...
Both on sale for $499/pr and both excellent speakers. The latter being more 2CH oriented than the former. My father-in-law has the Ref 1's and it's amazing how full a sound they produce for their size. Real rosewood veneer to boot and drop dead gorgeous. They'll easily compete with the Paradigm...
Hi Pete, The Onkyo 909 is a good receiver, it was their top of the line at the time but it will certainly be behind the times in terms of processing though. As your room isn't all that big and the speakers are I'd go the bookshelf speaker route. Since you're in an apartment the larger...
I think you're looking at some fine speakers in that group. The ones Stephen mentioned are also worthy candidates though possibly outside of your budget. Another potential candidate would be Paradigm bookshelf speakers. FWIW I own a pair of AV123 x-ls speakers that I use in my bedroom system and...
Ask the question at av123's forum. Many folks over there own the combo and seem to be very happy with them. From the reviews and comments I've read they don't have all the bells and whistles of the big name recievers but the sound quality is vastly superior. Just depends on what's most important...
Yeah, what they said about bright. Klipsch are definitely love 'em or hate 'em speakers. Personally I'm somewhere in the minute middle, I've heard them sound great when paired with vintage tube gear and they've made my ears bleed when paired with standard AV gear.
I assume the $1000 includes a sub too. Other systems to look into would be Paradigm Atom (x4)/CC 170/PDR-8 or Ascend 170/200 + small sub of your choice. I've heard a decent JBL system can be put together in that price range too but I'm not remotely familiar with them. I happen to really like the...
You bet! As soon as the trails clear of snow I'll be commuting to work on my bikes whenever I can. It's 20-miles door-to-door one way so I'll be doing A LOT of riding this summer. Can't wait! :D
I have a pair of Onix x-ls speakers from AV123 that I think are fabulous for the price. They vary in price between $219-$249 depending on the finish. They will also soon be introducing the x-ls-ex which used a different tweeter and x-over [but the same cabinet] which will bring out the high end...
I know nothing about your speakers but I've never been a big fan of the Denon sound. It will get your system up and moving just fine but I've never felt there was any life to the sound. Definitely checking Audiogon for used gear is a good starting point, you can often find Onix (Melody) SP3...
I picked it up on Thursday but didn't get a chance to play until yesterday. It completely consumed my day! This is definitely the best arcade style racing game I've played. Two thumbs way up!
Since you'll be sticking with 2.1, the Outlaw looks to be a good option for you as it has the subout. Emotiva just introduced a 2-ch preamp/poweramp combo that has a subout but that would definitely throw your overall budget off. Since music seems to be far and away the most important aspect for...
In that price range for a bookshelf I suggest the Onix Ref 1 from AV123. They're running a sale on their rosewood finish right now at $599 down from $1200. These are amazing speakers and at that price...I'm not sure why I'm not getting a pair myself.
Steve's recommendations are excellent, I'll second them. I wouldn't recommend any Sony speakers, even if you do get an employee discount. Sorry. Do note that the prices Steve indicated would be for 5.1 system, 7.1 will cost you a bit more, in the $200 range. The Ascends, especially the 340's get...
Yeah, there are some upgraded crossovers you can get for them, either kit versions or pre-built along with some additional materials (No Rez and BH5) for sound damping to improve the bass quality. You can get them through Sean (The Ninja) and he has a forum section for Upgrades on their website...
