Please read the manual that came with the C/L/R 2500. If you didn't get one, you can download it from the Definitive site. All of Definitives powered speakers (including the C/L/R 2500) have auto on/off. It will power off on its own, and will power back up when it detects an incoming signal...
Northcreek is right -- the lower the DCR the better. Remember though, Northcreek is thinking in terms of building their kits, not 'upgrading' OEM crossovers. Their designs and associated crossovers factor in the lower DCR's -- which impacts the resistance of the circuit as a whole. Now, when you...
Wow, this thread really took on a life of it's own. Inductors -- never change out an inductor in the tweeter ciruit unless you know both the mH and DCR value of the inductor. Parts Express sells an inductance/capacitance meter for less than $50. This thing is a must if you play with...
m00n and Scooter drop in for a visit...kewl! Yeah Scooter, I've been following your threads over at Klipsch -- a lot work isn't it? Check out my thread over here on updating the crossovers of the JBL S-26. I've been busy -- I just redid 5 of those for LeMarcus' HT here in Dayton. I'm still...
Brett, Your inductors look like high Q. You may be able to match the inductance value -- but it is not likely that you can match the DCR value unless the dimensions of the coils are the same (ID & OD), the same gauge of wire is used, and is of identical length. Using inductors utilizing DCR...
Now Nichlos, if you were hanging out with us Klipscheads over at the Klipsch Forums where you belong -- you would have known about the new speakers long before you bought your RF-3s.:D I wouldn't worry about -- I'm not convinced the new cones are so much an improvement as much as an attempt...
Other problems as well -- impedance matching, phase irregularities, notch filtering to smooth out peaks, and a host of other things that can be 'fixed' with a good passive network. Very good caps and non-inductive resistors act almost as wire. This is what separates good parts from mediocre...
Hi Brett, I haven't forgotten about you, I've just been so busy I haven't had time to dig into your mail. I also had LeMarcus' system on the brain quite a bit, and wanted to get it done pronto so it could benefit from some break-in time before he has hosts the HT meeting on the 7th of June...
I think you should pick up a N Series Center Channel to maintain timbre matching in your system. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...064098-8896032 Hell, at that price by two and wire them in parallel.
It's not always a good idea to make general comments about the sound of speakers without knowing things like room size, listening habits, and the associated equipment. You need to be thinking about price points somewhat. Within any given price point there are compromises that all...
Well, I made it over to LeMarcus' house last night and fixed that S-center. After getting inside of that thing the first time and saw how different the layout was -- it was apparent to me I was going to have to do a little bit of homework. The problem was that the S-center used can/ standup type...
Every room is different, and it's almost impossible to predict how bass will behave in any given room. I used to hate floorstanders, until I got them in the right room. Also, don't confuse clean bass with 'no' bass -- or 'more' bass with low bass. Calibrate properly and walk away. You're are...
Hi Tom, If you are going to stay with a solid state HT receiver, than I would not upgrade to the RF-7. Horns are extremely revealing, and that level of transparancy is best reserved for gear devoid of grain and hash. I do think it is a mistake for you to give up on the RF-3, which is...
If you tried to call me at work today after you took the speaker home -- you probably figured out I wasn't there. I bailed at noon. My fun meter was pretty much pegged out. Now, don't fall too much in love with that slightly tipped up treble because it will settle down some. I am surprised...
Size matters, it's simple math. Why anyone would opt for anything besides SVS is a complete mystery to me. If you want high output AND low distortion -- get yerself a big ass tube. Hey Marcus, what's up with "Somebody shoot me! Before I upgrade again!" Man, I was thinking it's more like...
"You think they'll laugh at me if I ask for 30% off?" I know I would. You get what you pay for. Don't you think it's worth paying for the time and effort spent with you making sure you are buying the thing you are going to be happiest with. Yeesh, salesman need to eat too. If I can...
I wish I was half as knowledgeable as you think I am. I'm just a very small fish in really big pond. I'm still pretty much a "wanna be". I can trace a PCB, make a schematic, copy a circuit, and for the most part not screw anything up. I have decent soldering skills, just take my time and pay...
Unless the thing is walking across the floor I wouldn't worry too much about putting anything underneath it. Now, if you want better sound -- you need to get into mass loading. The less the sub vibrates on the outside, the more energy is delivered in making bass. The energy is there, and you...
Good post up there. Something else to consider is that you are also looking at the driver impedance spec isolated from the rest of the system. Woofers and tweeters are run together, along with a crossover that is tweaked to iron out any irregularities in the total circuit.
Well, I suppose the thread title could have also been called 'LeMarcus at the mercy of a two-channel loon". I wanted to put this post in the DIY section -- but it appears it's mostly subwoofer related, and so I decided just to stick it in here figuring it would get more exposure anyways. I...
Interesting. I was thinking along the lines of why a 120wpc Bryston 3B-ST has twice the 'slam' in the bass as opposed to a run-of-the-mill 120wpc receiver or integrated amp.
Sell those Canadian speakers and get yourself a set of Klipsch RF3II's ($800), Klipsch RF5's ($1500), or Klipsch RF7's ($2200). It's not necessarily 'brightness' that you are looking for, because Paradigm leans towards the cooler side of neutral anyways. What you are looking for, and...
Hmm. It has always been my understanding that damping factor is directly related to the control the amp has over the driver. My placement and room are great. The bass is not 'muddy' by any stretch of the imagination. What I'm looking for is better transient response - 'slam'
Yes, you should be looking for a pair of used Klipsch Heresy's on eBay. You should also consider a discounted set of Klipsch RB5's. I prefer the RB5's, since I'm pretty much locked into the way 2-ways sound. Heresy's would give you more output however.
