Er, I should probably clarify a bit more.
I wasn't commenting on the digital->analog conversions, wherever they may or may not be, but rather on the nature of "digital cable" versus normal cable, and how Cable companies use it to the fullest.
Richard
Hey guys,
Just my little observation:
While Bob's slant on Digital Cable has a lot of points I would beg to differ about, he is right about discerning between digital audio and digital cable.
The general behaviour of most of the cable companies in north america has been to take higher...
Hmm, hopefully some of the other guys here have some suggestions to fit a US style pricetag.
Taking a quick look at the A&B Sound in the NE, there seems to be quite a lot to offer for the ~$750 CDN / $500 USD range, but it really depends on how "much" you want. I'm apartment bound, so going...
In general, S-Video just provides a noticeable difference in clarity and color. In some cases, you can notice specific things.
For checking the difference between composite and S-Video, use the following two titles:
Final Fantasy IX: With Composite, run around the world map for a little...
As a day one adopter, I'll come right out and say it:
DVD playback on the PS2 sucks. With or without the new drivers.
I can't speak in terms of quality - the image looks fine on my 27" Hitachi (S-Video), but disc compatibility is where I'd like to just buy as standalone unit.
Of the 40...
Not very likely - but perhaps worth a test for some.
I've got the sneaking suspicion that there is probably some hardware involved in setting the DVD region, which would probably prove very useful to Microsoft for defining XBox Game regions as well.
Richard
Well, I can only speak from personal experience, but I pretty much went through the same situation as you are in now.
The problem with going to a good HTF approved setup is that your ears might not be trained to notice the difference yet - I certainly appreciate my Soundstage 80 sub now, but...
Thats too bad if Halo doesn't play in 16:9, because FPS titles are the number one best use for that mode.
The closer to a proper field of vision, the better, with first person shooters.
Richard
As a VR-509 owner for the last 3 weeks....
I recommend setting it to Dolby Pro Logic II Movie mode for game systems. Since DPLII doesn't autodetect, you might as well leave it on, as it gives at least a marginal sound upgrade anyways.
With most of the Gamecube lineup supporting at least DPL...
FWIW, Most Electronics Boutique outlets also have the european version of Shenmue 2 listed - it seems they are going to try and sell them over here in packages with one of those cheat/region expander discs.
Richard
I'll give that a try in the next couple of days, Jim. There is a significant chance of RF interference, although it would still reflect more on the quality of the controller than the other, PC devices (which work fine).
Still, I'll post info on the controller in a home setting ASAP.
Richard
We've been testing a Mad Catz Dual Force 2 wireless controller for quite awhile now at the office.
The wireless aspect is nice, but the response times are sluggish, occasionally resulting in late turns or cancelled jump charges in SSX.
The bottom of the controller is also pretty poorly...
No dice on searching the forum, so I thought I'd bring it up myself:
I recently bought a SoundStage 80 subwoofer, which uses dual RCA inputs. It plugs into my Kenwood VR-509 receiver through a single LFE/sub RCA output.
The instruction "leaflet" with my sub recommends getting a single RCA ->...
Given that the Nintendo outputs are proprietary, and that staff at Nintendo have mentioned several times the possibility of DD5.1/DTS, the possibility is probably there to do a digital out on one of either the digital or analog plug.
Now, I actually find the SSX:Tricky DTS mode to be quite...
Amen for Super Smash Bros. Melee - anybody else with a good audio system is in for a treat when they hear the same orchestrated themes I heard at E3. If not for the blasting rich goodness of Rogue Leader, SSB:M would have had the best audio at the show.
And as for the Saturn...well, launching...
Bits are a worthless technology term - now, most processors and motherboards involve so many different bit-widths that comparison is impossible.
Since game systems all use different types of processors, its quite possible for an Intel 733MHz Pentium III (X-Box?) to lose out to a 200MHz Hitachi...
Not terribly sure about DTS or DD5.1, I thought they required a cable capable of sending compressed data. Nonetheless, it is possible, provided somebody releases the necessary plug.
Meanwhile, though, my receiver waits, ready to activate Pro-Logic II mode for some Rogue-Leader imperial...
Fair points, but assuming that IGN makes more than enough seems to be bogus.
For their "good advertising position" and "ample revenue", they've:
-Started a subscription service.
-Require at least a free login for many parts of the site.
-Have completely canned the SCIFI/Comics section and...
Depends on the game, since, as you mentioned, prerendered backdrops will not work in multiple aspect ratios.
What I would like to know, however, is whats the deal with 16:9 - does the RESOLUTION actually change, (ie, the number of pixels is equivalent) or is it just the camera settings?
If the...
Just a hunch, but you might have either "Optical Out" or "DTS" off in your PS2 DVD settings. Insert a DVD disc, play it, and go through the options menu from the select button onscreen display.
If you're still stumped, you may want to try picking up "SSX: Tricky" for the PS2 (renting is fine...
Getting your widescreen wishes is possible, but the path is not an easy one. The key is to establish communication with the right people, and to have the right support group.
Talking with me, for example, is almost unneccessary - its a good feature (but not mandatory) that would be great to...
Thanks, Chuck.
With little to no information to be found on wideband or other signal information in regards to component video, it seems like a crapshoot. Nobody seems to mention wideband or signal MHz ratings...
I suppose I'll hope for the best - all I'm hoping for here is 480p, so I can...
Sorry guys - to clarify, I have an 8-year old 27" Hitachi TV that supports S-Video and RCA - no component. I read on a particular high-end HK receiver that it supported wide band component, so I don't know if that is just a bunch of tech words or a legimate extra needed to route progressive...
Hi everyone...first time poster, but I'll try to make it (relatively) concise:
With the Nintendo Gamecube supporting Pro Logic II, the Sony Playstation 2 supporting DTS, and the Microsoft X-Box supporting Dolby Digital, I've decided to upgrade to a new receiver.
Since I'm on a limited budget...
