SOLD I've built myself an infinite baffle subwoofer so now my baby must go. This an Acoustic Elegance 15" AV15 subwoofer with two 18" passive radiators powered by a 500 watt plate amp. It is the new dual spider design. The enclosure sits on 4 black chrome spikes which have hardwood floor...
Here ya go: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...umber=091-1200 I use a RG6 F type to RCA adapter in the plate then use my sub LFE cable from the plate to the sub. You won't lose anything with a quality connector. If you aren't using a true LFE cable and are using RG6 then use this F to...
Hi Craig, Using only veneer or paint is definately the safe and easier way to go. You don't have to know much about the physics of solid hardwoods to do that. When designing a sub enclosure treatment or other furniture for that matter with the intent of using solid hardwood you need to take...
Paper backed veneer handles rounded edges easily. Of course it depends on the wood chosen as to how easily. I've taken oak, mahogany, and walnut around 1/2" rounded edges but prefer the look of 3/4".
Ahhh...I think I know your problem. The auto-on is waiting for a certain signal strength and you aren't reaching it. Turn up the gain on your source (receiver or whatever) and reduce the gain on the plate amp. Use the plate amp gain for final adjusting after that. You should find that it turns...
No problem, not much technical info from me but I'm very impressed with the performance of the AV15...it's darn pretty too :) Here's a pic of it (the bottle of rum is for scale): Here's another pic for scale, the TV is 61"
I had a 214L Tempest and replaced it with the Acoustic Elegance AV15 PR'd with 500 watts in a 24" cube enclosure. It's the standard recommended enclosure. You simply cannot compare the two, the Tempest is a low cost big bang for the buck driver that is quite capable but the AV15 is quite a...
Yup, I was wondering that myself. Very few of the regulars remain and the topics are few and far between. I really used to enjoy reading and viewing peoples work.
Dangit Eric! Now you got me all pumped to do an IB again. I just got that out of my head and now it's back. What is the latest great deal on 15" IB drivers on the cult forum? I haven't been there for a while. I really like my AV15 but that could go up in my bedroom :D
Hi Rory, John replaced my old single spider driver with this driver you see in the picture. The logo is placed so that you could indeed mount it straight up but I like it at an angle myself :) I thought the logo looked pretty darn cool aluminum (vinyl) on aluminum like it is. Darren
Sorry, I built those to match the entertainment center about 4 years ago. I don't have any plans or anything specific on how to build them. Was there anything in particular you wanted to know?
Ok, here are a couple pics for scale. One that includes most of my HT wall, the screen size is 61" for reference. The other is with a fifth of Captain Morgans on top for scale :) The bed liner I used is Dupli-color truck bed coating.
The corners are a 3/4" radius on all edges except for the bottom. I chamfered it 1/8" to get rid of the sharp edge. It sits on black chrome spikes to anchor it. I painted the enclosure with a truck bed liner product I found at walmart... forgot the name of it but you can buy it in spray cans or...
The PR's are AE as well: http://yellow.mynethost.com/~bv12636...e0305d968393cb Going with PR's adds to the cost a bit though. I was going to try a sealed Tumult at the time but opted to go this route for now. I'm extremely happy with the performance. My next sub will be an infinite baffle...
The driver is an AE(stryke audio) AV15. http://www.aespeakers.com/products_av15.php It is 24" X 24" constructed of 1.25" thick MDF and dual 18" passive radiators.
I had the same 214L Tempest enclosure and replaced it with the 24" cube AV15, 2 18" PR's with the PE 500 watt plate amp. That alone was a monster improvement. Much more output in my experience. I can't comment on dual 12's but the one AV15 was a big step up. Not that the tempest was a slouch...
Shipping a 100 pound sub isn't as hard as it sounds. You need to find a double layer corrugated box and line it with a minimum of 2 inches of styrofoam insulation. You can buy 4 X 8 sheets of it at Home Depot for $12 each. You want to wrap the sub in plastic if it has a nice finish. Line the...
Well, I doubt you'll find a speaker that performs excellently against a wall but you may find some that peform acceptably against a wall. I'd concentrate on sealed or front ported designs and just find a pair you like or that are rated well if you trust that. If it is mostly home theater...
Ok, you found several leaks...that's gonna make a huge difference in the performance. Just use silicone or latex caulk on all the inside joints. Use weather stripping for the woofer seal and amp seal (the kind for doors etc which is a foam strip with sticky on one side). Let us know how it goes.
I'm no expert on the Shiva or any subwoofer for that matter but a smaller box will probably tighten it up a bit but you'll loose low frequency extension. Is this for music or HT? You may require a bigger amp if you go sealed or smaller ported. I'm just throwing out thoughts here, it's been a...
Hmmmm... you may be used to the boomy sound of a commercial sub. I had a Velodyne 10" and while they are good bang for the buck they are quite boomy. When you move to a high quality sub such as the Shiva in your case you may have to adjust your listening expectations. The Shiva will reproduce...
I have 5 AV-2's in my HT and love them. They are more than adequate for my large room. I have an AV15 PR'd sub paired with them and my system is envied by all my friends :) You can check out my stuff at Link Removed I detail the building of several kits including the AV1+ which is now called...
Also, take some thinner like mineral spirits and wipe a generous amount on a piece of veneer with a rag. This will give you a good idea of what it would look like with a natural finish on it. It will be quite a bit darker and the grain will come out.
