Probably also matters that this isn't exactly a frenetic, hyperactive, fast action (w/ lots of panning and/or unsteady camera work), explosive movie like many modern, action popcorn flix -- such hyperaction and camera work (and explosiveness) can definitely be very taxing on codecs...
Outside...
Bummers.
I actually brought a good size, (lightly) folded plastic poster bag (from a previous reward poster from Disney Movies Insider) to use for it, which happened to work perfectly, especially given the heavy card stock. I considered bringing the cardboard, poster shipping container, but...
But how exactly did you do that (to be sure you're actually seeing the 4K digital downconverted instead of the HD digital version instead)?
AFAIK, most streaming services/apps do not allow for downconversion most(?) of the time -- and I'm not sure how one can ensure one's getting the 4K...
BTW, as I just mentioned in the rewards thread, they gave out a surprisingly high quality, heavy card stock w/ nicely embossed gold lettering, wide version of the TPM anniversary poster specifically for the marathon (w/ the marathon indicated/listed across the dark/black bottom area). It...
You mean this TPM poster?

For the nearly-24-hour marathon I attended over the weekend, they gave out a surprisingly high quality, heavy card stock w/ nicely embossed gold lettering, wide version of that...
Now that you mention that, yeah, I do get that sense at times. Guess I was only thinking the reformatting would involve cropping (top/bottom) instead of opening/expanding the sides. But yeah, it's probably not the kinda show that makes me scrutinize the composition enough at least in binging...
Not that I doubt "Paramount got to Paramount" at all -- that almost seems a given in most cases -- but how did you check out the 4K digital since you don't have 4K display?
I understand you feel your access to 4K-to-HD downconversion of discs and/or certain quality screencaps are generally good...
You can see it in HD on NetFlix these days. That's what I finally got around to doing lately to see what all the fuss is about (and have never used NF quite this much before), LOL... and yeah, this newbie is hooked, haha! ;):D As I mentioned in the Star Wars thread, I even watched a little...
Someone (or two?) apparently canceled for the seat(s) next to mine, so I had empty seat buffer flanking me on both sides, which was good since my neighbors on both sides had merchs (and one was also fully dressed up w/ lightsaber, etc) -- I was somewhat tempted to dress up and bring a lightsaber...
RotJ next in a few minutes... and then a ~45min lunch break...
BTW, turned out I have the ideal/best seat for this... and definitely better than I could do at home... though it probably made TPM and even AotC look too soft (and somewhat washed out looking), heh...

Prequel Trilogy just completed. Been a very long time since I last saw all 3 (more or less) in their entirety... and certainly a very fun crowd for seeing this, if at times kinda odd w/ laughter and/or applause, heh...
Not too sure how long I'll last before dozing off some bit. I had planned...
^NYC area is kinda odd. We (still) seem sliced up into a lot of different semi-monopolistic markets here usually w/ competition only between Verizon (still not always FiOS) vs whichever cable provider (most often Spectrum). @Josh Steinberg out in some odd town on LI seems to get the best deal...
I tend to agree... even though I actually do like watching (as well as playing) tennis a little on occasion. I was actually very annoyed by the tennis ball(?) POV towards the end of the final match. Why the heck did they go there w/ that???
Also, how realistic is anyway? That seemed very...
This thing definitely had me thinking Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds for the first ~1/2 hour or so down to the spaghetti-western-influenced music score at least thru that 1st act or so... but never really measures up nor comes remotely close me thinks despite seeming to aspire to that to some...
Maybe I need to give it another shot when I'm not as tired as I was last night...
It did seem like it should play better than it did for me... but then again, maybe for something like this, I would actually prefer it to be more "zany or campy or over the top" than it is...

Yes, I saw it last night w/ excellent seat at the Times Square AMC Dolby. Felt kinda meh for a fair portion of the time (though I was also surprisingly tired and had just seen Challengers and revisited Civil War beforehand). Glad to see the mid-end-credits scene right after the stunt credits...
Wonder what kinda breaks they'll insert between movies for this marathon... and what kinda overnight concession/staffing/etc will be available...
Refillable popcorn and soda(?) (w/ my A-List membership) would definitely be (very) worthwhile for this me thinks, heh, even though I'm not usually...
Ok, I just bit after seeing a better/good seat pop up. Seems like it should be pretty close to ideal (for me) for a 2.4:1 screen w/ that seating plan judging from my revisit of Civil War yesterday, if the screen is actually wider (w/out losing much, if any height) than what I saw yesterday...
You're going to that screening? I was thinking it's probably just a modest-sized 1.85:1 screen (like the one where I revisited Civil War), but if it's actually 2.4:1 and makes optimal use of the space, then that sounds (much) more promising than I thought...
Was also wonder if the nearby comic...
I see 1 available seat pop up at the Times Square AMC and am slightly tempted. I'm still enough of a nightowl that I could probably actually stay awake for the entire ~20-hour run, except I do already have plans until ~8:30pm tomorrow and would miss at least 1/2 of Ep 1, which I probably...
I just used this for:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Leon: The Professional (Extended Cut)
The Fifth Element
Sleepless in Seattle
Adaptation
Actually already had CTHD, Leon and FE in HD because I originally redeemed my 4K DCs (from 4K discs) via Vudu back when they only had HD and I didn't...
Frustrating indeed.
Only very tangentially related, but I just bought the extended cut of Leon: The Professional 4K via FanFlix's latest bundle deal (figuring I should choose that to ensure I get 4K for that version), and of course, it's not porting to Apple/iTunes which only has one entry (for...
I don't know, but maybe it's time to move on and let this go instead of just keep banging one's head against some 3ft thick leaden wall or some such (that even if you have Superman's X-Ray vision, won't be able to see thru and find out), heh... Not like finding out will likely, meaningfully...
Maybe it's just me, but I think the FX (at least as seen on a big-ish screen in a dark theater) were basically spot on for what's intended and works perfectly (and helps further evoke the low-ish budget, 70's vibe).
