The Terminator was one of the first Blu-Rays I bought, but a faithful restoration given plenty of breathing space on a dual-layer disc would be enough for me to re-buy. Can't wait.
Details of the Japanese release of the Apollo 13 Anniversary Edition are up here: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UNED-25052
There's no mention of the IMAX version - I just wonder if Universal Japan have decided against including it, and have re-jigged the discs so that the...
Because many of them are Irish (just like the extras from Father Ted, funny that!). And for those that aren't, because it makes sense for Alexander's men to speak with the same accent as him - so once the decision was made for Colin Farrell to speak in his own accent, instead of putting on a...
Silence Of The Lambs R3 is censored? I was just about to shell out for it, thanks for saving me (just noticed there's a Japanese DTS release which I can get instead :)) Do you know of any other notable titles censored in Korea?
I'd imagine that if the Japanese release is uncensored, the Korean version would be the same? Must say I'm very interested in picking one of the Asian releases up for the DTS track.
I did a comparison of the PAL and NTSC Annie Hall transfers a couple of years back, and despite being anamorphic the PAL transfer had a softer picture, as if it had gone through some kind of noise-reduction process. Unfortunately, I can't show you the pictures as I sold my PAL version just...
FYI, that Last Of The Mohicans disc has been available on R3/NTSC from Hong Kong for a couple of years now (isolated score and all). Solid transfer and audio, well worth it.
It probably won't matter either way - Columbia already license Dr Strangelove for the boxset, so I can't see them having a problem with doing so for any newly acquired MGM titles. It would just be another convenient reason for Warners to re-release the set.
Now that Warners have bought MGM, it's only a matter of time before there's a new Kubrick box with the MGM films (Paths Of Glory, The Killing, Killer's Kiss) added to the Unrated EWS and (less likely) widescreen transfers.
Apologies for going a touch off topic, but there's a Hong Kong R3 release of the theatrical cut in NTSC (official Warners release, nice anamorphic transfer and DD 5.1, oh and an isolated score to boot).
Clear and definitive (i.e. they've had someone who knows what they're doing play the actual discs to check) information on the aspect ratios, anamorphic status and DTS support on all of their titles, starting with those which are possibly better than the R1 equivalents. If I had that info on...
I received the Brazilian version of Trainspotting today, and unfortunately it's a PAL->NTSC conversion. You can tell by the running length (just short of 90 mins, which is the same as the PAL versions - the film is originally 93 and a half mins long). If you still frame through it you can also...
Just for the sake of completion, the Japanese bare-bones release includes a DTS track (the only NTSC DTS release thus far): http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCBP-50592
It's definitely on the R1 release, and the reason it's there is presumably because 'Dentist On The Job' was re-titled for its US release, where it was called - wait for it - 'GET ON WITH IT' :D
As much as I'm sure most of you dislike the film, the actual trailers for 'Pearl Harbor' are minor works of art. The shots of the zeros coming in over land and sea never fail to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and the choice of music is sublime. The first time I saw the teaser, I...
I wonder if two-disc sets such as 'Patton', 'The Abyss', 'Fight Club' and 'Cast Away' will be re-released as Five Star Collection titles in the future?
The Five Star releases so far are: - Independence Day (June 27th 2000) ***DISCONTINUED*** - The Sound Of Music (August 29th 2000) ***DISCONTINUED*** - Cleopatra (April 3rd 2001) - Die Hard (July 10th 2001) - The French Connection (September 25th 2001) - M*A*S*H (January 8th 2002) -...
