That's a tough one... Plasmas tend to have lower resolutions / area than LCD's, but I like the even brightness of the emissive technology of plasma over the transmissive (needs backlight) LCD tech. I have seen many very expensive LCD tv's that have uneven backlighting, and that just ruins...
I just picked up my Season 1 set from costco in seattle.... They had it for a few bux less than amazon's sale price, so minus shipping (sales tax either way for me as I'm in washington state and pay amazon sales tax) so I saved a few bux and got instant gratification! :D Cheers, Rich
Personally I use a linux box running samba for all my media storage...mp3's divx movies, etc....
I use a raid array of 2 80gig maxtor 5400 rpm drives for my movie collection (striped, not mirrored) and under linux it's very easy to setup and maintain (if you a *nix head).
I agree with the...
Search avsforum.com under the HTPC section....lots of dscaler users hang out there and a quick search will yield you a plethora of capture card options...
Yes, there are many composite capture cards out there...the wintv line being very popular and inexpensive...

Wayne,
Been too busy pulling cable to check on the thread :D Just (4 months ago) moved into a new house (well, new to me) and have been pulling a lot of cable recently (500+ feet of RG6 and 1000+ feet of cat5, as well as speaker wire and others).
Luckily (sortof) the wiring...
Wayne:
Thanks for the kind words :-) Lessons learned after running tons and tons of wire.

As far as running under carpet goes, I've done that as well, but it's pretty tough to get it run without feeling it. If your carpet pad is not attached (as most ARE), you might be able...
If it's an xbr400 it would be a decent deal...I wouldn't buy it sight-unseen however...
You'll definately want to look for the brightness level issue (right side darker than left) and check for any geometry issues.
If it is any model older than the xbr400, I would stay away from it (a new...
Barring any fire blocks (see post above), I have had very good success with fish tape....
In you particular case it may be difficult, as you'll want to keep the hole near the base board small, and you're running up a fair distance....
First thing I would do is get a decent stud finder, and...
I think (not 100% sure) that they've also fixed the detection of progressive signals for the auto-squeeze. I have an 36xbr400 and it doesn't detect the progressive signal and squeeze automatically...
My coworker bought a 32xbr450 and a prog. dvd player...and his works.

Home audio systems use one of three ways to avoid amp overload (too low of ohm reading from combined speakers).
1) multiple distribution amps, ala Kustom or Russound
2) Impedance matching volume controls, either "home run" or daisy chained off of one speaker output
3) A home run speaker...
Assuming you don't have basement or attic access (cleanest route, while not that easy , and that under the carpet is your best bet...there are some options.
1) Pull up carpet, run wires, put carpet back down. Probably the "neatest" way to run them, but not very DIY friendly, unless you have a...
Don't forget to add some $$$ for cables....figure a couple hundred or so for a decent set of component video cables, a digital audio cable, good quality powerstrip, speaker cable, etc....
When I put together my system to go with my 36XBR400 I forgot to figure the cost of some quality cabling in...
Just went through this last month with my 36XBR400....
We had movers take care of it. They zip-tied the power cord and hand carried the tv to the truck. They had prepared a very sturdy section of the truck (on the floor of the cargo compartment) and placed the tv there. They then used...
