Just when everyone thought this thread might die...
Wanted to let everyone know that my order arrived from Zack today as promised. Their prices on Canare cable, tools and connectors are the best I've found. Chris, let me know if you need any info to update the "Parts Chart".
Brian
Josh,
You're not going to be able to find web pages for all the parts you need at the distributors sites, except as you noted at Parts Express. If you are just looking for technical info everything is available at the Canare web site. Here's a link to the connector page, which includes a...
Chris,
Have you used the 1/2" Techflex for the V3 component cable? How much of a pain would it be on long (~20') cables? Any idea on how much lengthwise "shrinkage" there would be due to the stretching of the sleeve?
Chris,
Zack Electronics won't sell the V3-5CFB by the foot. I believe they said the minimum quantity was 300 meters for something like $1,300. I bought mine from Have, Inc. for $2.09 + $7.50 cut charge. (Contrary to the rumor you mentioned in a recent e-mail, as of 5/25 they were still...
Chris,
When you said you were using RG6 for everything, were you referring specifically to the L-5CFB (and V3-5CFB) or more generically to coax, including the LV-77S, which according to the Canare site is not true RG-6 but "Broadcast Standard 8281", (whatever the heck that is)? I was under the...
Chris,
In addition to the coax, I ordered all of the connectors, the crimp die, coax stripper, and cable boots from Zack. All of the prices were better than Markertek except the L5-CFB which was $0.39/ft vs. $0.34. I was told that everything except the cable was in stock, but requested that...
I'm planning to use the solid (L5-CFB) for all things video including CATV, and the stranded (LV-77S) for all things audio, including the sub. The advantage of the solid wire is slightly reduced signal loss, particularly at the higher (video) frequencies; the advantage of the stranded wire is...
Correction on my last post:
Have Inc. still sells Canare V3-5CFB component cable by the foot. Minimum order is 10' and it sells for $2.09/ft with a $7.50 cut charge
As of last week, Have Inc. had Canare 4S11 at $1.20/ft and Belden 1810A at $1.02/ft, both plus a $7.50 cut charge. If you want some you better act quick. At the rate they are discontinuing "cut to length" items (first Techflex, and now, from what I hear, the Canare V3-5CFB) these might not be...
Marko,
Are you certain that BC uses Canare 4S11 speaker cable? Have you done an autopsy??? I heard from a "VERY reliable source" that they use Belden wire. I didn't ask what type, but the 1810A is the only one I could find that meets the BC description. I haven't compared the Carare and...
Chris,
Fantastic job! You've consolidated the info from at least a few dozen posts into a single link. (And you are way too generous giving out the credit - most of the info I put together originated in your earlier posts.)
A couple of updates since I sent you some of the info. Zack...
