AV Talk UK has objective tests of both subs- http://www.avtalk.co.uk/forum/index....t=0&rid=0&SQ=0 http://www.avtalk.co.uk/forum/index....t=0&rid=0&SQ=0 The SVS pb12-plus/2 puts out 104db at 20hz where the M&K 350 II can only muster 90.5db. That is a huge margin, i.e you would need...
While I'm at it A DIY screen for front projection 65" in 16:9 AR black painted frame with mitered corners and bevelled inner edge hangs easily with 2 wood brackets I designed screen material is blackout cloth painted with 2 coats of matte white gesso, about 1.2 gain $FREE Going in...
Also selling the original 20-39CS driver, an SVS port tuned for 20hz if using the same size sonotube, and some unused sonotube, 4' and 8' sections. You can either build a copy of the 20-39CS or go larger/smaller (tune would change though). $100 for all
The groundplane results suggest, there are no distortion figures that I can see, that the max output at 20hz is ~102.5db at 1m distance. Over on AV talk their results for 2m groundplane pegged the SVS PC+ and PC Ultra at 98db or 104db adjusted for 1m. The Axiom also has a 7db "sag" from...
This is from Die Hard 1, Five Star Collection. John Mclean tosses the office chair strapped with C4 down the elevator shaft. Nothing under 20hz, very little 20-30hz intensity, most of the C4 blast is 40-60hz stuff. I've always been disappointed with the sound design for this scene. Now you...
I would want a separate power amp for the 804's. The 1056 is 75? w/c? You can "get away" with that temporarily but the 7 and 8 series need a real power amp. I agree with the HTM for center, dont mix lines with the front 3 speakers. For surrounds it's not a big deal. Also agree about the sub...
My friend used the cheaper G2Si ribbon in his DIY center. It sounds fantastic although just ever so slightly strident. Very minor and could be easily softened with a little eq. Those should be nice speakers Tim.
You can always get 4 CS Ultra's like my Friend Eric. It sounds f'ing great :D There is a big difference in sound quality from dual CS+ to dual CS Ultras. The Ultras are just way more ballsy in the deep end with more distinction in the notes.
This is not the exact excursion graph for SVS but it gives you an idea of how fast it goes up below the tuning point and the need for subsonic filtering.
~3db, not worth just getting 1 more. Are you using a subsonic filter at 16hz? The driver excursion increases dramatically below the tune point and this can bring on distortion much sooner with deep bass material.
