Just thought I'd share my observations abour these two players after having just purchased both and comparing them. For starters I have a Pioneer Elite 610 (which locks in full mode) and a VSX-24TX receiver. My old DVD player which I am replacing was a Toshiba 3109 (non-progressive). I was...
Is there anyplace left that has the Panasonic CP72? I'm looking for a replacement for my Toshiba 3109 and I really want to stay with a changer. Or any other suggestions for a DVD changer with great PQ (under $300)?
Is it a consistent signal? My 6000 will lock on a signal over about 50, but when WGN started brodcasting here I had a problem locking on because the signal seemed like it was on for a second then off for a second, etc. My signal strength would vary from 70-80 then drop to 0 and I couldn't get...
Why wouldn't he just get the Echostar6000 or the RCA100? Is there any advantage to getting the pioneer cartridge other then seeing the little "DTV" logo light up on the set?

I'm not sure what type of lenses/cameras they're using, but the images (on both WMAQ and WLS) look like 14:9 to me, not 16:9. On my widescreen Pro-610, the top and bottom of the image are always sliced off, which makes the news painful to watch (even though the picture is so good)...
"Well, after reading a few posts at the avsforum...I found out that AT&T cable carries the CBS digital feed!!!"
That's really kinda misleading . . . Only selected suburbs can get this feed - I know I can't get it and I believe the channel it's on varies from city to city.
If you are one of...
Oops! Sorry.
The consensus over at AVS was that while the news on WLS (and even WMAQ for that matter) looks really really good - it's not HD.

There are no local HD stations available anywhere through Direct TV or DishNetwork. But if you have a Dish 6000, 8VSB OTA module and an antenna you can pickup WMAQ (29), WLS (52), WFLD (31), WGN (19), PAX (43) and SNS (45).

Just as an FYI, here is a reply I got from Pioneer a couple days ago, after asking them about the ability to somehow "upgrade" my Pro-610 for HDCP/DVI -
"Thanks for contacting Pioneer Electronics.
The Pro-610 has no "Upgrade" or " Modifications" slots like computers do. You have the slot for...
"Argh, we should just all be happy that it's on DVD."
Yeah, really :)
I can just imagine the posts when Star Wars finally comes out on DVD . . .
"Those lightsaber woooshes just aren't cracking my house foundation! This disc sucks!!!"

"It has been suggested (but not confirmed) that the master Universal used for the JP/LW DVDs was mixed with some of the LFE mixed into the left/right main channels to improve the 2-channel downmix. This is not incorrect, per se. It does, however, make proper system configuration more critical. "...
