    300Mbps Wireless!?!

The one they announced recently is their "draft-n" as they had a Pre-N out quite a while ago. The pre-n did not perform very well compared to the N specs but did beat out most G routers. Other draft-n routers from linksys did not perform well at all while the Netgear one did much better than all...

My dog's afraid of the Match Game (and other doggy quirks)

Of course my dog hates thunder. But the weird things he is afraid of are any kind of flying insect that buzzes. He doesn't do well with flies in the house or outside in the summer. He is also afraid of the vapor trail from a jet. It gets so bad at certain times of the year where he'll stand at...

Help with what I need to know moving info from one notebook HD to another

The key thing i think you are missing here when you are trying to restore using these tools is that "You have a FAILING HD" so doing an image is not a good idea. just use an enclosure as others have suggested to copy data over that is still good. (note some of your old data may be corrupted)...

Help me decide on an HTPC configuration

Do you think you really need the performance of raid 0? I had a machine with raid 0 for the last 2+ years and it finally cratered. My whole problem with it was backing it up or getting any files off the disks after they died. You have to be able to get them in a raid 0 array of the same type...

Dedicated Home theater Sound Isolation questions?

Sorry to post my own reply. I had searched for sound isolation but came across lots of posts about doors/drywall/resiliant channels. I posted then thought hey search for forced air. Came across these helpful posts. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...ght=forced+air...

Dedicated Home theater Sound Isolation questions?

I have a basement which i am finishing which I'd like to sound isolate as much as I can. I was planning to put in 2 layers of drywall and solid core doors. I realize doing that may not yield any isolation since i have forced air heating in my house including the basement. These forced air...

2005 National meet? Is it gonna happen?

I am located in Canada and finally have time this fall to do a meet or the the home theater cruise. I would prefer the meet at this time as I haven't been to the Los Angeles area before so would love a chance to visit the studios and so on. I know it's early in the year but I want to make...

    High-end laptop for <$1500?

Another thing you might consider is OpenOffice instead of word and excel. I've been using it for about a month and have had zero problems with compatability. Granted I've been doing the reading part only and not creating or modifying word docs. spreadsheet files have worked for me though and...

Anyone Using Dell Axim Pocket PC?

Check out Tomshardware guide In the review they compare the 50v to some ipaq's. For me the winner would be the hp 7315 for the nice battery life. (price is an issue still though so I'm sticking with my old handspring visor pro 16mb monochrome) Have fun with your toy. Dan

Best way to heat/cool a basement HT

I have a similar dilema and would love to go with some kind of infloor heating. (basement is concrete so it would be expensive now). Other options I've looked at are electric or water radiant heaters. (not ideal for keeping a nice steady temperature) I am also going to look at some electric...

Is there any way to switch the functions of the CAPSLOCK KEY & the left Ctrl key ?

Force him to learn the new map. He'll be more productive that way if he temporarily uses someone elses computer. Conform.... Conform.... Conform.... I bought myself an usb keyboard. Carry it with me to any new job and so on. Laptop be damned but those keyboards are too small.

    Changing display adapters on Win-98

Have you actually removed the old adapters from device manager? I had problems switching cards a while back and it turned out that all I had to do was go into device manager and say remove device. Windows automatically put in a basic adapter and removed the old drivers. Then I started from...

any good packages that teach basic programming skills?

I believe a learn to program book from amazon will be a good choice. The only problem is you will need to decide which Programming language your son would like to learn? What types of things would he like to do? Program simple games? Are you willing to spend money on more than just a...

    blackout fabric--which side?

I went with the Shiny side for my LP350. Never got around to flipping it around even though it'd take about 10 seconds to do so with my screen. (it's hanging from plant hooks on wires)

    windows help!!

What kind of access violation? Is there an error code number? If you have the error code number it is likely a missing DLL and with the error code and a google search (probably in groups) you can sometimes find out what dll is really missing. Then just copy that DLL from your coworkers...

    USB or PCMCIA Wi-Fi adaptor?

With the USB you may still have to disable it. Depends on the driver they provide with it. I had one in the past that still warned me everytime I just popped it out. Never had any crashes just the warnings though. Dan

    Differences Between Dells

No requirements that I know of. I know they do ask for your company name but you can just say Jon Inc and they would be fine with that. I think the difference comes in when you apply for financing or go for a lease. Dan

Projector's with manual zoom and watching different aspect ratio's!

Well it's a long subject line but here's my current concern. I have an Infocus LP350 which has a manual zoom and is a 4:3 projector. I have a 16x9 screen which currently has no matting for different ratios. I find that if I watch a DVD (dvd player is in widescreen mode) and set the project...

    Best PC peripheral for gaming?

Yes you use the mouse at the same time. As I mentioned in my post I was using the speedpad in my left hand(it's designed for the left hand) and the mouse in my right hand. Speedpad for movement plus other keys and mouse for aiming and shooting... I have used the Strategic Commander now...

    Valve Skewers Nvidia

Just curious if it may be a Power related issue? Does an ATI all in wonder use up more power? Is it pushing you to the limit of your Power Supply. I read a few interesting articles recently about the power consumption of devices in most machines and 300W PS's just don't seem to be enough...

Playing music on HT via networked computers

You should have no problem. MP3's are on average 1mb per minute. So if you think about streaming that on a 10mb network you should have no problems. The only thing I can think of is if PC (B) goes to sleep or anything you'd have a short lag time when you try to play your first song. Dan

    External Hard Drives

One thing to note is to make sure the drive you get is a fast drive. I read that 7200rpm drives are the required minimum to get no dropped frames for DV editing. Not sure about the specific drive you picked up but some of the external drives on market are actually just 2.5" laptop drives...
