OK, here's a little update on this. I had some folks over, and got into a discussion about the best arrangement. The consensus seemed to be that (a) it would be better to use the space on the east side (right side of pic) as the conversation area, and (b) put the TV setup on the west side. And...
It wasn't listed at 719 though. Their current ad has a 42" Panny at 799, and I think it's the G15 (call them) and I think that's what the price was before too. Go in and ask them to do better. Good luck.
He first quoted me $739 on the TV but then I impulsively bought an HDMI cable from them...
Plasmas are best for avoiding motion blur (and other things too, like deep blacks). I'm really glad I went with plasma for my 42" panasonic. I got the p42g15 for $719 $739 (plus California's "screw you" tax of 9.25%). I don't think they'll go away the way HDDVD did. Unlike HDDVD, which requires...
have you checked out www.projectorcentral.com? pretty nifty site.
Also, as to size v. resolution v. seating distance, see http://carltonbale.com/1080p-does-matter.
That's interesting. So, I guess you would only use the analog out if you had a receiver without a digital input (and all sources were connected to analog inputs).
Thanks for following up! Actually, the analog out is to pas through analog inputs. So, I need both analog and digital out. The Wii is only analog audio, so I'd need analog out to pass that through. If I hook up a Mac, then it'd use the analog input that goes with the VGA input. It surprises me...
Yeah, it's very difficult to compare. I went to a Sony store over the weekend, and they had a nice setup, with their four lines (S1 to XBR9), in 40", side by side, with a video loop highlighting the things to look for. That was really helpful. Obviously, it's only Sony, but even within that one...
The question isn't so much what you're using the TV for but rather what you're using the room for, and how big it is. Is it a TV room, or a living room? If the former, go for the larger. If the latter, then it depends on the size of the room. Siting 10' away in a 15x15 room is not the same as...
Juddering was pretty bad. I caught a scene Band of Brothers, and as a truck drove across the screen the edge juddering was bad.
The deal was not for the XVT, though, It was for the 550M. In any case, it has steered me in a better direction (for my needs) - smaller and plasma.
It looks like the S1 doesn't have analog audio out, which I really wanted to enable the TV to switch all my devices (and the same reason I rejected the LG).
And it looks like the ONLY difference between the G10 and the G15 is the slim case of the G15.
So, that means, if I want 1080p, my best...
My timeline is rather short - like ASAP. I have nothing (well, a projector, but no place to project now). I'm not going to have a house full of TVs - just one, so I want it really good.
OK, I'm convinced that a 42" plasma is the best for me.
They basically fall into two groups: 720p (with a native resolution of 1024x768, which is slightly LESS than the actual 1280x720 signal, so some detail is lost) and 1080p (with a native resolution of 1920x1080). I can't find any 42"...
Yes, I can return it. And now having bought it, I just might do that. The thing is absolutely huge in my living room, and frankly, static pictures look great (though there is glare) but moving edges look awful.
I notice I prefer the matte look of a projected image (for the last five years I've...
Guys, I'm furnishing my whole place. I don't have the luxury of a dedicated home theater like some folks have in the basement or elsewhere (I have a spare bedroom, but I don't think that would work well because it's upstairs with the other bedrooms and would be a tight fit). So, like many folks...
You see these things in the store and you have no idea what the settings are. One may look better than another, but it could be because the settings are off (either accidentally or intentionally). If you ask for the remote to peruse the menus, that's a 30 minute hunting expedition.
Having said...
Guys, I can get the 55" Vizio 550XVT (120Hz, CCFL not LED) for $1150 . I was eyeing the 551 (pseudo 240Hz, LED), or even thinking of waiting for the 552 (same as 551 but with networking, widgets, etc.), but this seems too good to pass up. I'm having a hard time rationalizing paying $750 more for...
Are you sure the second connector with the square holes only has two rows? It's probably a DVI connector, but that has three rows.
Assuming it is DVI, there are three flavors: digital, analog, and both digital and analog together. In the Mac world, it's both digital and analog. In the PC world...
I assume you are referring specifically to the D-sub 15 connector, actually called the HD-15, and commonly known as a VGA connector. If so, then that would definitely be better than s-video. Of course, that assumes your TV has a VGA input. S-video will only carry standard definition; VGA, the...
Yeah, I was trying to avoid having the windows behind the sofas, and the TV facing them (glare), and the TV being the first thing you see when you round the corner to enter the room on the East side...but oh, well.
Here's the TV stand I was thinking of getting...
3 and 4 are definitely better. As between the two, I suppose that depends on how your receiver handles surrounds, and what the speaker manufacturer recommends for those speakers. You should make sure, though, that if the surrounds are mounted on the wall behind the loveseat that folks won't be...
WIll folks be conversing in the den? Or is it strictly home theater? If the former, then I prefer option 1, since the sofas would be within conversing distance of each other. In option 2, the door, and table, separate them too much.
Well, you might be able to get a mount that allows you to swing out or pull out the tv from the wall (like an articulating arm) - so, install it on the back wall and pull the arm out enough to clear the front wall. That is, if the physics work, given the weight of the plasma, distance from the...
Thanks for all the replies folks. I was in it again this weekend (I don't actually have it yet..) and the northwest opening is larger than I thought - almost half the north side.
Regarding the sound, I'm using the Yamaha YSP-1000 sound projector, which makes placement easy but won't yield...
I used Live Interior 3D Pro (a Mac product). Nothing beats Chief Architect for the right balance of features and ease of use (Windows only), but Live Interior is easier to handle, to whip up a quick drawing.
Hey folks, so I'm in the process of getting a new place. I use the Yamaha 1000 sound projector for the speakers.
The room is 12' x 17', and it has a lot of windows/openings. See the attached pic.
I don't actually have the furniture shown in the picture, so you can start with the "bare room."...
