    Navigating discs with Sony Jukebox

Mike you can sort the disks alphabetically. Sony's Explorer does leave a lot to be desired as it does not allow you to page down though. You have to arrow down. You can also create alpha sections in the the four custom folders i.e. A-E, F-L etc. You assign your DVD's and CD's to each...

Police "Every Breath you take" Hybrid SACD

Well I have been playing the EBYT SACD and have to say I like some of the tracks in multi-channel but not all. In some cases the mix is way to gimmicky in the rears. Perhaps what we have is a new format that engineers are just now exploring and as with all new toys they'll get it right after...

    sony scd-c555es bass management question

I have a Yamaha RX-V800. I also hooked up the 2 channel out to the CD input of the reciever as well as the 6 channel outputs from the 555ES to the 6 channel in's. When you do this you then can swith the source to CD and then use the sub or leave it in 6 ch input to not use the sub. Your...

    sony scd-c555es bass management question

Wow Lam if anything, my experience with my 555ES is the opposite of yours. I get plenty of bass on the multi-channel and very little on two channel. I think it depends on the mix on the individual CD. I played around with the various BM formats and now run MCH Direct for multi channel and...

What am I missing on DVD-A in sound quality?

Thanks everyone, just another excuse to fill the rack with more toys.......:D I thought the DTS sounded great on these two, but if the advanced resolution is that much better, than I'll just jump on board. Phil mentioned that he thought that the DTS and advanced resolution layers were...

What am I missing on DVD-A in sound quality?

Mark I know about the issues regarding the Kenwood from the threads......scary. The problem is that I have "committed" to a megachanger to handle all of the DVD's. (read WAF) So are you running a separate DVD-A and SACD player split into your analog inputs or are you using a universal...

What am I missing on DVD-A in sound quality?

Thanks Phil and Mike..... Phil when you mention that the DTS is close, can you describe what you think is missing in this format versus the true DVD-A? I have just been so impressed with the SACD format that I want to understand the sonic nuances of the difference between DTS and DVD-A...

What am I missing on DVD-A in sound quality?

Hey Gang, I purchased a Sony 555ES last month and have been eagerly snatching up SACD disks. The format has rejuvenated my love of music. This weekend however I also grabbed Nightfly by Donald Fagen and Fragile by Yes, both DVD-A's as these were great CD's and I was intrigued at the newly...

Do you have an option to turn all effects off? I do on my Yamaha. That turns you into Stereo mode on mine.

    SVS 25-31PCi Review

Joe what do you have your sub level at on you receiver? The manual states to start at 1/2 to 3/4 up on the sub but 3/4 down at the reciever.

    I want to hear....

Not sure what you are using currently but I heard and felt clean and powerful bass that I had never heard and felt before when my 20-39PCi was added to the mix. If you have used a lower end subwoofer you will be amazed by how the muddiness will be eliminated. As much as I love mine for movies I...

Just bought Yamaha 5280...no 6th speaker?

Actually the 5280 is the "big store" equivalent of the RX-V800 which has Matrix 6.1 only no discrete rear center. I do beilieve this unit is 1-2 years old now. Was it used or a demo?

    Is professional video callibration necessary?

I have a Toshiba RPTV and had it professionally calibrated by an ISF tech (Mr. Bob) I was astounded by the results, an amazing difference. Anyone that comes by and views the picture quality agree. Sure it's expensive, but I felt it was was more than worth it.

What would you do for approx. same $? Big 3-way CSW Tower IIs or Small 2-way Axioms?

Don't despair Rich. I am in the same boat in reading other's viewpoints on the CSW line. I paid more for the Tower II's. I had the same impression as you regarding the performance of these after I bought them. Then you read about the all the other choices out there from everyone and you start to...
