Although the magical properties of spice is not what I would call sci-fi, rather fantasy/space opera, like the force in SW (at least until TPM).
But I agree it is important to the story.
Well, that same year saw Dark City, Existenz and 13th Floor covering a similar subject, and while less flash, IMHO more successfully. None of them got he recognition they deserved.
I don't think The Matrix has aged well, but YMMV. When I showed it to my daughter, born -96, about five years ago...
I don't remember this being in theaters at all, and the blu was heavily discounted, so I figured it had been out a while. The site I bought from doesn't give a release date, but it was filmed in 2023.
And like I said, one of his best, highly recommended.
One of the Swedish newspapers headlined their review 'is this the worst movie of the year', but as the rest of the review is behind a paywall, I don't know what was so bad.
Definitely not for me, but for those who like these kinds of things, I suppose this is the kind of things they like ;)
What a coincidence you starting this thread now, when the blu of this just popped up on sale at my favorite online site. Blind buy, should be arriving today.
Really like Liam Neeson when he does action like Taken, Nonstop, Commuter, Memory, Run all night, Tombstones, and hopefully this.
Like Pussy Galore (I must be dreaming) or Plenty O'Toole (But of course you are, named after your father, perhaps?) ;)
Bond girls had the stupidest names then.
Please don't, you're a voice of reason in this thread, and despite the occasional disagreements, I think this is one of the more interesting threads in recent times.
Do stay and contribute.
Now, this is where we must agree to disagree. With all due respect, of course.
I feel just as strongly for popcorn movies as I do for art movies, and I have lots of both on my shelves. Popcorn movies are also works of art, and should be treated as such.
Just as a Mona Lisa, a Lichtenstein or a...
I always watch CR and QoS back to back as well. Skyfall and Spectre have their moments, but the Blofeld thing is just stupid, although the idea of having a story that continues across several movies worked for me. And I thought NTTD was a fitting ending, both to the Craig era and to Bond, not...
I know he is, just like Lucas is of Star Wars, and I didn't say it broke the mission statement, only that it stretched it. Even a director approved pan and scan release of a movie is generally frowned upon here, just like altering color correction, edge enhancement and other alterations. I don't...
But isn't this just what George Lucas did with the special editions of Star Wars OT? I don't remember much praise for those changes, him doing in -97 what he wanted to but couldn't in -77.
And as for Cameron, as technology changes, so does his opinions, didn't he say back in the laser disc days...
The man is gone, but his memory remains, thanks partly to this forum, as we can still read his wisdom.
It makes you think about ageing when people you have interacted with over the years suddenly are no longer there.
I was young when I discovered this hobby and this forum, but I am no longer...
Yeah, I know, I bought my copies back in -78, but today, I see no reason why this fantasy, which is what is is, is so highly regarded. It wasn't good then, when I was 18 and thought it was, and it is no better now.
And is it really still considered 'great'? Honest question, I'm not in the...
Basically my critisism is on Herbert, not Villeneuve, the bad is the story, or lack of it. I might not have thought so at 18 when I read it, but I do now. There are lots of bad fantasy novels with many sequels, this is just one more. But back in -78, it wasn't.
I love BR2049, and Arrival, and...
Well, back after seeing it in the only IMAX we have here, which is a regular laser one, it was in what I guess is 1,90:1 throughout, no changing ARs.
It was extremely impressive, the cinematography, acting, sound (oh yes, WOW), but even as I have read the books and rewatched part one I did not...
Well, you guys are really selling it.
I read the books back in the 70s, saw the Lynch version, and mostly forgot, until the new version came out.
Wasn't all that impressed, although I usually like Villeneuve, and rewatched the other day in prep for tomorrow's show, and must say, still not that...
But just like Spotify, for me the main problem is not quality, although it exists, it's availability.
And so I want to hold the music or the movie in my hand, so it doesn't suddenly just disappears when I want to listen to it/see it again.
I have bought quite a number of films I saw on Netflix...
Well, one problem is they are called 'comic' when in fact they are not necessarily that. Just because they are drawn rather than written don't make them Donald Duck. Like, what is 'comic' about Sin City? Or John Wick?
And Spielberg already tried Tintin, and while I liked it and hoped for a...
So I have tix for next week (28th), digital IMAX, so no 15/70, and I guess no 1,43 either. Still, the best I can get here.
Need to find time to rewatch part one first.
Am I the only one who likes it? Sure, S1 was great, but IMHO, so was S2. S3 was a little less awesome, and as for S4, not done yet, but so far, totally unimpressed. Just watching to see how it ends, basically. Too lazy to read spoilers.
I found Atomic Blonde to be quite entertaining, and in a different vein, Bullet Train was also entertaining.
And of the Batman movies, Batman Begins is my fav.
Well, I'm old enough to have dissed a number of sequels when announced, like Blade Runner, only to realize they were quite good, so despite my initial felling of 'oh, wtf why?', I'll hold my judgment.
(and completely crush it once it's out ;))
