The IMAX run has ended, but I'm seeing a small number of showings this weekend in standard digital auditoriums at my usual theater (Veterans 24 Tampa).
I saw it this afternoon. I've been looking forward to this one for a while now based on a number of things (his previous films, advance reviews and The Favourite being my favorite film of 2018). Despite my anticipation, this film far exceeded my expectations. I was blown away. Stone knocks...
It started at 6:18, but I was rushing to get there by 6:00 because of past experiences. When AMC brings back older films (excluding Fathom events), there have been several occassions of the film starting right at show time (2001: a space odyssey and Schinder's List are two that come to mind)...
Good point. I had forgotten how he said that several times.
I ended up moving it to tomorrow night. At the time I booked it, I didn't think it would actually get any premium screens after the early access screening. Once they opened up additional IMAX showings, it just worked out better for...
Seeing The Abyss in a theater again (first time since 1989) was every bit as glorious as I thought it would be. I was worried it might look waxy with lots of DVNR, but the fine detail was very evident throughout. I was very pleased. It certainly sounded better than when I saw it in 1989...
After seeing Godzilla Minus One, I have to admit that I'm not nearly as excited for this as I would've been. The Legendary Pictures version seems so formula compared to what I saw over the weekend. I'm sure I'll still see it, but my enthusiasm has dampened.
Indeed. This was the first MCU film I didn't see theatrically on opening weekend in the last 6 1/2 years (Spider-Man: Homecoming was the last one). In my case it had nothing to do with Larson or any kind of political issue. I just wasn't a huge fan of the first film, I haven't watched the...
I have my ticket to see it in Laser IMAX on 12/4. It's some sort of "IMAX Early Preview". I'm very much anticipating this film. Ever since I heard he was coming out of retirement to make one last film, I've been looking forward to this.
It would get more talk if they actually had a reasonable window so that it would get picked up by AMC, Regal and Cinemark. Apple chose the much better path with Killers Of The Flower Moon.
I found this interview where Nolan addresses the 3 hour runtime in relation to the IMAX platters.
"I went to them and I said, 'Okay, I've got a 180-page script. That's a three-hour movie on the nose. Can it be done?' We looked at it, they looked at the platters, and they came to the conclusion...
I'm not sure. I saw it on Sunday night in non-IMAX 5/70. Afterwards, I went into the IMAX (Digital Laser) auditorium and watched a few minutes. The IMAX Laser was not only noticeably sharper, there was more dynamic range in the colors and the IMAX was slightly brighter as well.
It was still...
The Warner Bros policy of putting theatrical movies on HBO Max the same day seems even more ludicrous when you factor in that it cost them Christopher Nolan.
I hope I get the chance to see this theatrically again someday. What an experience that was. I don't think the film works quite as well at home, which may explain why some consider it to be lower-tier Nolan. I think it's one of his best films, but I realize I'm in the minority there. It...
Wow, that was much better than I expected. If you don't go in expecting a 5-star comedy, I think you'll have fun.
I hope this does well so that studios will get back to making R-Rated comedies again.
It was much better than I expected. It really worked for me. Ezra Miller was outstanding. To me, this is the best (live action) comic book film since Spider-Man: No Way Home.
I can't wait to see it again.
I think this release of ROTJ will actually be on fewer screens than Empire played for it's 40th Anniversary in 2020. It was on 2,000 screens whereas I believe ROTJ will be on fewer than 1,000.
Empire Strikes Back Rules Box Office To Become Top Re-Release Of 2020
I love The Eternals. I think it's much better than any of the MCU films from the last year. I'm hopeful that over time, it will be given a second look by people.
