It depends on the price. Of the 400+ DVD titles I have right now, I only have a few that I paid over $19.99 (US). At that same price point, I'll probably replace at least half in the first couple of years with the rest phased out over a bit longer period. However (you knew that was coming...

Bob,
1) I bought a 58" 16:9 RPTV and currently, it is solely used for DVD viewing, so NO you aren't loony! Well at least by my standards. ;) I won't be hooking up cable until my provider has a Hi-Def feed, or I make the plunge into satellite/OTA.

Now on the audio side, it's not a...
Tim, I agree with Matt. Rotate it if SAF allows it. You'll have a much more balanced soundfield and (IMHO) a symmetric room allows for easier accoustic corrections.
Roy, do you have a preference on how you like your audio? Bright, warm, detailed, accurate, etc. . . ? Since you are looking to upgrade your entire system, I recommend auditioning receivers AND speakers together - not necessarily BUYING together, as that could be a serious chunk of change at...
Being a Yamaha RX-V1 owner, I can tell you that for the Yamahas it DOES make a substantial difference, not only in quality of the components used, but also in the sound. To me, it was well worth the extra cost to get the extra performance.
Even though it's not on your list, give this one a look: I picked up the Pioneer Pro Elite 610 (58") after looking a bunch of RPTV's. It and the 710 (65") had the best OOTB picture of all the RPTV's I auditioned, along with the best looking cabinet fit and finish. I am extremely pleased with the...
