Well that doesn't surprise me. I was trying to do this on the cheap since I already have the receiver and the speakers are already mounted. Sounds like I might need to make a purchase. Are the Acoustimass speakers powered?

Thanks for the reply. Clearly I'm in way over my head. I did try to connect the speakers to the pre out first but couldn't get them to play so I'm assuming they aren't powered. It's also possible I didn't use the right setting to play them. I have the users manual for the denon but it isn't...
