A Few Words About A few words about...™ Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations - in Blu-ray

I know a lot of hard work went into this set, and I have admiration for people like Mr. Skretvedt who have dedicated so much to L&H over the years, but a purchase at this point seems really hard to justify. As much as I want to reward the effort overall. But like someone else said earlier, I...

Kino Lorber Insider (Read Guidelines Post #3)

I've read so much about this film over the years but never got my hands on the DVD. I look forward to rectifying that here. I've also read that Miklós Rózsa's score is quite impressive, and reminiscent of one of my favorites of his works, another WWII film made in 1943 with a desert locale...

UHD Review A League of Their Own (Columbia Classics Collection) UHD Review

Thank you for the review, Todd. Alas I am still waiting for my true holy grail release for this film: an expanded album of Hans Zimmer's wonderful score. I'm sure he sounds great in Dolby Atmos here along with the rest of the track.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations - in Blu-ray

I apologize if I came across a little harsh and, again, my disappointment is tentative. I haven't gotten the chance yet to cancel my pre-order but will hold off for now. Thank you for chiming in, Randy. I think my concern is two possibilities: this release falling short, and this poor...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations - in Blu-ray

I'm confused as well. Either the UCLA theatrical showings were overrated, or something happened during this project to result in something different from what UCLA has done. Either way, I'm skeptical this is the best it can possibly be until UCLA confirms this is how they're "supposed" to look...

Dear Warner Bros...How 'Bout Giving Up Your Marx Bros. on Blu-ray?

Agreed. I've been wanting these just as long as the Paramount films. A Night at the Opera especially as it's my all-time favorite comedy. It would be incredible if they found and restored the beginning of the opening scene that's been missing probably since its original release.

    The One...The Only...JAWS

When Intrada released the comprehensive Jaws in 2015, I sent my very close friend a copy of it with a short note printed out. He loves the movie like I do and quotes lines with me all the time. "Yeah, it's a CD but what kind? What kind of CD?" "A 2-disc film score/album soundtrack CD."

    The One...The Only...JAWS

The Memories From Martha's Vinyard book mentions how salty, old New Englanders of that era tended to think of actors as "sissy" types, as was common when that generation was young during the Golden Age. Since then I can't help but think that extra was doing his "actor voice" in that shot. His...

    The One...The Only...JAWS

I no longer lived near a beach when I first saw Jaws at about 8 years old, but after seeing it I was spooked just swimming in a pool. One of the things that makes it click so well for me, that I haven't seen mentioned yet, is the clear and satisfying nature of its three acts. You can feel...

Laurel and Hardy Restorations Coming to Blu Ray and DVD

Thanks Tony. If you see any early reviews, or in particular mention of the packaging style for the BD, would you report it here please?

    Converting 35mm slides to digital

Those look great, Scott! It looks like you've also done a little cleanup, no? I'd say those look better than mine do, but I went back and looked, and my scans aren't as bad as I thought. They're pretty close to what you've got. Definitely not as good as the slides, particularly in density, but...

Speaking of Columbia titles, I'm still seriously hoping someone can get to Sahara (1943), a powerful and underrated Bogart film.

    Converting 35mm slides to digital

Sounds good! Yes, unfortunately, the negatives just don't have the same quality as positive slides. Though I understand it depends on a variety of factors - type of rolls/format, type of camera, lighting etc. Ours are all 35mm negative rolls, the ubiquitous format for consumer cameras back in...

    Converting 35mm slides to digital

Scott, your 1963 image is incredible! I also recently started this same project and also picked an Epson V600 for the job, and am very happy with it. I'm actually all done with positive slides at this point, and am scanning negative rolls now. And I can tell you, I'm so glad my mom shot most of...
