Austin - next HTF meet planning

Or, if you want to get really controversial, an SACD to analog (vinyl) comparison, using pressings of the same recordings, if we can round some up. -Rajiv

Austin - next HTF meet planning

I'd love to do blind comparisons of CD and/or SACD players, especially if anyone in the group has some high-end players. My DV-47A universal is already getting long in the tooth. :D -Rajiv

Austin - next HTF meet planning

I was out of town for the last meet :frowning:, but I will definitely attend this one! Count me in for the blind testing too. -Rajiv

    August Austin HTF meet.

Aug 23 works for me as well. I prefer the room acoustics topic, because it's an area I'd like to learn more. I am already pretty well set up with OTA and Directv HD. However, if that's the consensus, I'll go along without arm-twisting! -Rajiv

    Austin Movie Nights!

I haven't come up with a name yet. Suggestions welcome. I figured due to it's diminutive size, mine needs to be a "miniplex". -Rajiv

One other point - be aware that video editing and rendering the edited video for DVD are highly CPU-intensive, so a fast CPU would actually help. Still, a 2.4 or 2.53 GHz should still be pretty cheap. -Rajiv

Nils, It's funny, I am just starting to get into DVD burning myself! I want to put my kids's 8mm and Digital 8mm videos on DVD. I've even picked up a bunch of stuff from Fry's last Friday that's waiting to be installed: a Firewire card for capturing video from my Digital8 camcorder, a...

Nils, I am pretty happy with it. I use my "HTPC" exclusively for recording OTA HD material. I am using a Dell 4550 2.0GHz, 384MB RAM, with 140GB of disk. These puppies are ultra-quiet and make excellent HTPCs with the right graphics cards and DVDd drives. Since the MyHD card puts out HD on its...

Chad, It doesn't work! I've tried it. She still falls asleep! The AC works fine with 2-4 people in the room, but can't handle 15 people in that small space. I am drooling imagining how nice your HT is going to be. My main suggestions would be to invest as much attention to high-quality...

Nils, Those chairs are where my wife and I collapse after a hard day of parenting 4- and 7-year old girls! They are called "zero-gravity" chairs, and we got them from Relax the Back. There may be other sources for them now - this was several years ago. I didn't get a chance to demonstrate how...

Many thanks for the kind words and great advice from the learned crowd! It is clear that I have a significant room mode that needs to be tamed. Part of the problem, it turns out, was the fact that my subwoofer level was miscalibrated after all. I recently moved the sub to its current...

Colin, I won't be able to make Friday night. I should be able to attend most of Saturday except the late nigtht portion. I am OK with you emailing addresses to the RSVPers. -Rajiv

    May Austin HTF Meet.

Fantastic! Just a procedural note - it's about a 20-25 minute drive from Lakeway to where I am, so the 15 minutes you have between Chad and myself may be a bit optimistic. But- if we keep this thing anywhere near on schedule, it'll be a miracle! The heck with schedules I say - let's just...
