UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

Good points, especially with regards to home video compression. I'm not a pixel peeper, but on a 10-foot screen when watching 4K Blu-ray, I see too many compression artefacts around moving objects at a regular viewing distance (e.g. a person moving against a static background has a "halo of...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

Robert, have film scanners improved by a wide margin over the last decade (or two)? Would a 4K scan of an OCN today on a modern scanner capture more information than a 4K scan a decade ago on an older scanner? Or is it our tools beyond the scanner that matter more today? I'm thinking of, but not...

I love the raised blacks and blown out whites.

Does that even exist anymore in today's post-secondary climate, far from healthy learning and debate? If "this" SDS existed, it would be a membership of 1 person. Would that then make this SDS an authoritarian organization? Or a dictatorship without a membership? Probably so, and thus it would...

I'm happily replacing my 2011 Blu-ray and 2007 DVD with this excellent release.

Thank you @Lord Dalek for posting Fake's comments on their project. For all those reading these posts and who aren't as familiar with this film, it's our recommendation here to listen to this film score independently either by the isolated tracks or by picking up the Intrada or discontinued...

Yes, the Intrada CD is missing the tam-tam and it's present on the Varese Sarabande CD (and the mono film as we've known it).

@Lord Dalek I’m assuming you’re referring to the Atmos mix? There were sections in the 5.1 mix where the choir seemed entirely absent or very low in the mix. Are you saying that in these moments the choir is now slightly more audible, or about the same?

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

I think the intenational cut is the better film if you're thinking of watching the theatrical cut first. The extended cut is an extra minute longer although I can't recall the exact differences other than minor trims restored to selected shots. Someone else may be able to provide greater...

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

Crazy enough, when I listen to the 2011 5.1 mix when watching the film, my brain fills in the missing choir and I actually think it's there through my speakers. It's so burned in my brain that I hear it anyway!

I received a response from Arrow and I thank them for providing information about it. They wrote that the source for the Atmos mix was Universal's own 5.1 legacy mix. They also had the original mono mix as reference to ensure the new Atmos mix honoured the original treatment. They did enquire...

Thanks @JohnRice . I was trying to use the feature, but it's not working on my computer. It just gives me a blank spot. I'm not sure why that is. I'd rather have it the way you're suggesting.
