Unfortunately it's released by Optimum, which means they'll be using the StudioCanal master, which is, frankly, rubbish as well.

I don't buy it. If you look at the coming soon section there are just too many unlikely titles (for example all seasons of The Simpsons) without any dates or information. To me it looks like nothing more than Amazon's notification placeholders.

I hope they just scrap it all and license the Italian restoration, because from that description I have a hard time imagining how it could be anywhere near as good. I've never understood the idea of doing something yourself when someone else has already done it much better.

Kind of. Take a look at the row of shots at the bottom here. The second shot is how it should have looked, the fourth one is how it actually looks on the Blu-ray.

I will still be disappointed if the US theatrical cut isn't included, however if it's from a new master that looks as good as the Italian restored editions of the earlier films (and they do look absolutely fantastic) then I'll pay any price for it, regardless. Hoping MGM gets English editions...

Is this something new, or is it just the audio reconstruction featurette again? Other than the Frayling commentary it seems to be the same package as the previous DVDs. Hopefully it'll look as good as it deserves to, but I'm preparing to be disappointed.

I think Blu-ray is slightly more efficient when it comes to running times though, even in reasonably high quality. 3½ hours on one DVD is not a great idea, but on BD it's doable. For example they should easily be able to fit all of the Mickey Mouse colour cartoons on two discs instead of...

Will be interesting to see how these hold up in HD. The quadrilogy transfers are already quite a few years old and I don't suppose they've done new ones since then.

Looks like they could be similar to the I Am Legend UCE box. I'm sure they'll be nice, but as with Casablanca I'm not buying unless they also offer a regular edition for a sane price.

According to Gary, the restoration on the Italian Blu-ray was carried out by Cineteca di Bologna. Some searching reveals that they also did a photochemical/digital restoration from original negatives of For a Few Dollars More, so likely the same process was used here. Unfortunately the...

I agree that the caps look fantastic. I bought the Sergio Leone Anthology last year, but I cannot wait for MGM/Fox to release the films again on Blu-ray. Hopefully they will look equally good with original mono tracks all around. Also hoping for Scorsese's restoration of Once Upon a Time in the...
