Petition in favor of XM/SIRIUS merger

Most of the music stations were dumbed down a bit. Really it's not too different from XM in the past 6 months on most channels, just swinging more towards mainstream hits instead of lesser known artists and songs. I still like it for in the car due to the talk, sports, and play by play stations...

In anticipation of XM/Sirius merge.....so have we!

This is from the xm411 merger forum. Personally I am 100% against the merger.

What title/release would "force" you to buy a HD-player or turn to "format neutral"?

I imagine if "Run, Fat Boy, Run" ends up on HD-DVD I'll take the plunge, but that's not a single title. That's the other two Simon Pegg movies as well as No Country for Old Men and the Bourne Trilogy. I really can't imagine spending even $200 just to watch one movie.

    Denon AVR-3808CI: An Overview

Thanks for the reply Ron, and for keeping this site going (not sure I've ever put that out there). At the moment, there's 1599 reasons for me not to get the 3808. :P After Christmas I should be in a better position. It looks and sounds amazing, and I'm curious how it will make my Def Techs sound.

    Denon AVR-3808CI: An Overview

I'm also still using an AVR-3802, but I'm thinking of upgrading sometime after Christmas. A couple questions: 1) The GUI I'm guessing can be seen through HDMI? Does the receiver show a volume bar on the TV? That's the one thing I really have never liked about my 3802; the absence of any kind of...

    Time to cancel

I still have XM, but I haven't been listening to it nearly as much. When I do turn it on, I still know about 90% of the songs, which makes it almost useless outside of baseball to me. I've been honestly surprised how good podcasts are getting. I can listen to MLB daily, ESPN radio, etc as...

    Time to cancel

Well, the main point of me owning satellite was to get clued in to awesome music that I didn't know existed. Seeing as they're moving into the FM top 40 format now, there's no unique music anymore.

Kyle: I don't think anyone wants Ethel to get really obscure; that's for XMU. Maybe a song here and there, but most of it should be relatively popular bands. The problem right now is that they're playing the same songs over and over again. The old Ethel played deeper cuts from popular artists in...

    Time to cancel

I think the only way that XM will go back to how it was around the Live 8 concerts is if they see much lower than projected growth during this quarter, and a churn rate that at least doubles. My gut tells me that they'll have a record quarter from MLB and new hardware, and will continue to...

Ron: looking at the data from mediabase, Ethel is giving songs as many spins as my local Clear Channel station. Jon Zellner himself said they've received numerous complaints about the obscurity of XM's music channels. I feel as though Ethel is the sign of things to come. XM will eventually be on...

By the way, for anyone who's interested, this is what Ethel's playlist has looked like over the past 7 days: Station Rank Spins Audience lw TW Artist Title TW lw +/- Reach/ Mill 2 1 NINE INCH NAILS Every Day Is Exactly The Same 38 36 2 0.038 13 2 DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE Crooked Teeth 37 29 8...

    Time to cancel

XM is moving in a horrible, horrible direction. I would be surprised if most people could identify it seperately from Sirius in an A/B test at the moment. Or at least in the rock station lineup. Ethel, for example, is so damn close to a Clear Channel FM station, that if you threw in ads, it...

Still not quite happy with rock channels (don't worry, not dumping XM just yet)

Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Linkin Park...someone fire Bodhi and get a real PD in there.

Still not quite happy with rock channels (don't worry, not dumping XM just yet)

mylan: if you're looking for something similair to an iPod, you're better off with Sirius. XM has always played a ton of stuff that is really new or not considered popular with some hits thrown in. Sirius is like the polar opposite of that; they play a lot of hits with new or unknown stuff in...

    Sirius wins with Howard Stern

She'll be doing a weekly 30 minute radio show. I didn't respond to anything else since you had your facts wrong.
