    analog video capture

I use the Pinnacle Deluxe. It's an AV/DV bridge that captures and displays both composite and S-Video. Works beautifully and I'd recommend it to anyone. Okay, I am big time confused. Where does this even come into play with Ted's question?

Question for Vince or other PC recording gurus

Why bother? The problem is definitely in the PC itself! (:D Sorry. I had to.) If you have an electrician's store in your area, there should be devices out there to determine if an outlet is grounded or not. I doubt these will be cheap, but I would hope that your church would pay for it...

CD-ROM & DVD-ROM drives suddenly do not appear under "My Computer" ? What's wrong?

If both of the drives are on the same IDE controller and the BIOS does not detect them, it is possible that the controller has partilly died. If the drives are not there, Windows should not show them at all in either Control Panel or Windows Explorer. So, the fact that Windows is detecting the...

Question for Vince or other PC recording gurus

I'm not sure how you define "rather old", but you might be out of luck. Many "old" buildings (even as young as 30 years old) did not incorporate three-wire electrical connections. The hot and neutral are present for you to get the electricty, but the ground wire is not present. So, it is very...

Question for Vince or other PC recording gurus

Also, if the problem is indeed a mono-to-stereo issue like I describe in my second post, Radio Shack does sell mono-to-stereo adapters to prevent the grounding from directly connecting to the "middle" audio section of the plug.

Question for Vince or other PC recording gurus

No. This is purely a case of electromagnetic principles. You are using electrical equipment that is likely not grounded yet a ground needs to be available. I have run into this numerous times before. For example, I can have a device plugged into an outlet with no grounding abilities and I'll get...

    God I hate PayPal

Oh, well. I've never had a problem with them. I've made over 100 transactions, both sending and receiving, and can't say that I've ever experienced a problem. Am I in the minority on this?

Question for Vince or other PC recording gurus

Yeah, that pretty much clinches it as improper grounding.

Hard Drive: how to hush it?

Then you get different hard drives across the Pond than I do. ;) I'm running some systems with hard drives that are four or five years old and the only thing that can be heard is the fan, which is not all that loud at all.

Hard Drive: how to hush it?

That's not good. Hard drives shouldn't be noisy at all. What kind of noise is it? Is it a high pitched whine?

Buck Rogers (TV) seems to be on tap- still no sign of Rockford or Kolchak

It's not in the first seaon, but everything time I think of Erin Gray, I only think "Off-think, off-think, off-think." :D

Anyone Else Have High Blood Pressure?

I can only go on my own personal experience obviously, but about six months ago my BP was about 138/91 which is borderline not good. I read in a lot of medical books and magazines about how lecithin (found naturally in soybeans) can reduce blood pressure and cholestrol. I changed nothing in my...

Disposable DVD off to a slow start

Let's see. Disney loses Roy; Disney loses Pixar; Disney loses EZ-D. When will Disney lose the people that come up with crap like this?

Disney, Pixar to go separate ways

It's about time. Maybe now Pixar can retain the trademarks on their characters like Eric alluded to.
