Xmas DVDs for a 13-year-old niece?

My 12 y.o. and almost all her friends can't seem to get enough of the Scary Movie series. I never felt these were intended for kids that young, but they've been watching them at birthday parties, so other parents must approve. :rolleyes

Single-season wonders that deserve a DVD release

Boy, you guys are reminding me of some great shows! A recent series that I never managed to see in its entirety was Charlie Jade - I'd love to get that on DVD!

    HDA1 Upconversion via HDMI-DVI-RGB

My Yamaha LPX-500 front pj has DVI input, but it is not HDCP enabled. So will I get upconversion on macrovision-protected SD-DVDs using HDMI to DVI, or does my lack of HDCP kill the deal? This may be difficult to predict, so I'm wondering if anyone who has actually tried it can answer?

New DVD prices - US vs Cdn

It does make the current $24.99 (at Costco) for the whole Firefly series look like a great bargain!

US release DVD VS Canadian release DVD

Has anyone been to a Best Buy Canada to see if they carry the "exclusive" boxset with the tin and the two other movies that's available in the U.S.? Too bad we can't order from the U.S. Best Buy like we can from Amazon when we need the better versions (e.g. unilingual covers).

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Porco Rosso - Recommended

By the way, there's a coupon in the box to get one of the previous "wave" DVDs for free if you buy all three of this current wave. But anyone who's enough of a fan to get these three undoubtedly has all the previous releases already. I'll probably send it in anyway to get a freebee to give away...

    Kaena: The Prophecy

Thanks Edwin. Kind of lame that for a France-Canada co-production, we end up without the full surround version, unless you order the import.

    Kaena: The Prophecy

Hey Edwin, since you rented this in BC, I'd like to know if this was the 5.1 surround version, or just a stereo version like I received from Future Shop last year (and sent back without opening it). Which of these two covers did it have? amazon.ca or Future Shop (which shows 5.1 on their...

US release DVD VS Canadian release DVD

No, I think they're saying that their current DVD "format" with English and French DD serves more people than English DD and English DTS. Which is probably true. But I certainly would prefer that they find a way to keep the DTS track - don't a lot of these discs have Spanish tracks that could be...
