Check out the latest sub shootout in the current issue of "sound & Vision". For a budget system it's hard to beat the Velodyne CHT-15 at $599. When looking at the output comparison graphs the Velo is on a 120db graph while the others are 110. Curt
Call Velodyne's service manager, David Santos (408) 465-2819, and run the problem by him. A Velodyne servo sub is a precision device and I'd go to the experts. Curt
In your price range, I haven't heard anything that approaches the Velodyne Deco system. Included is a very high-tech sub. Audition it for sure, it's your money. Curt
The new Velodyne DD (Digital Drive) subs which replaced the HGS's are almost totally remote controlled. Any of the older F-series that have an R (FSR-15) in their model number are also remote equipped. Curt
For music the Velodyne SPL-1200 is a winner. Sealed box, state of the art driver and amp for clean, accurate tight bass. Velodyne has been preaching low distortion for years and you can hear the difference. Audition it and see what you think. Curt
I'd certainly check out the Velodyne CHT-15 at $599. Look at Tom Nousaine's review in the latest "Sound & Vision" magazine. That's serious performance for the money. Curt
Jon, I feel your pain. There are pros and cons to everything in audio and a lot of people know a little bit and some know more. Since I'm local to you (Carefree) if you'd like to get more depth call me at 595-4715. I've been in audio for fifty years and can cover the bases with you if you'd...
Hi Jon, You've called your speakers small, that's good. If the Pioneer gives you crossover choices, go with 80hz. If it doesn't give you choices, then it's at 80hz (probably). Put the Velodyne crossover switch in the "out" position. This is the same as "direct". Your Pioneer is doing the...
Jon, Install an audio interconnect cable from the subwoofer jack on the pioneer and use a "Y" splitter at the Velodyne end installed into both input jacks on the sub. Under speaker set up (Pioneer) call all your speakers small and indicate you have a subwoofer. On the sub, put the crossover...
Hey Ben, In that price range check out the Velodyne VX-10. The Cheap Sony subs I've heard didn't do much for me. A friend got the VX-10 and it's good. Curt
For years I've had great luck using sealed box subs with ribbons, Maggies and other dipole speakers. Currently I'm using a Velodyne HGS-15 crossed over at 50hz to Maggie 1.6's. This is in a large open area and sounds fantastic. I also tried the 1.6's in a small room with the Velodyne SPL-1200...
