Aragon Soundstage is the BEST pre (new or used) in that price range. The trouble is finding one. Especially for music......... http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/p...gon-soundstage
Sounds like Ricky T to me. NHT are hard to beat for the money and they DO like power. I'd call them neutral sounding unless you use bright electronics all around.
Just sell me the PT LP's and be done with the turntable madness! :D Short of doing that, I'll second the Technics. You are still going to spend $200 with a decent p-mount cartridge for either the bd20 or bd22 model table (or more). You could buy used. I see some bd20's on ebay for $25...
Depends on how much power you need. You can grab a used Anthem PVA-7 for around $900. Nice amp if you have efficient speakers. If you have power hog speakers, this won't do, maybe the outlaw or sherbourn for tougher to drive speakers. Then you are talking 2k or more.
Doesn't the T5 have a seperate sub? You won't get the gut wrenching bass like you would with a SVS but it goes into mid 20hz range. I think you will have plenty of bass but I should be one to talk. :D Since I have complete overkill biamping NHT VT2's with a Sherbourn 5/1500a PLUS a SVS. Subtract...
A song called "The Violin" by City Boy is worth a listen. You get a small sample from the below link but it doesn't do the song justice and you don't hear much Violin in the sample. It is a fantastic song. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=music
Ilia, you simply use the front left/right preouts (which it does have). Connect RCA cables from these preouts to the outboard amp input and run the speaker wire from the outboard amp to the speakers (of course removing the speaker wire from the receiver first). This is the short version.
The NHT ST4 towers I think would do the trick at less than $1000 a pair. They fit your description of what you want sound wise. The NHT SB3 bookshelfs are nice as well but they may be similar to the 602's. You may also want to experiment using the subs high pass crossover. That would give...
I have a nice working Technics bd22 with TWO Shure HR-P15 carts. I will sell you the whole package for $100. You can't (and won't) find a better deal. The Shure P-mounts were the best p-mount carts made (not any longer made). I have been thinking of ebaying the package but haven't gotten around...
